We are thrilled to announce that our good friend and former Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL) Vice President, Gordon Cudjoe, has recently been appointed to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Brampton. Justice Gordon J. Cudjoe was born in Ottawa and raised in Ghana, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) from the University of Ghana. In 1993, he returned to Canada and later attended the University of Toronto, earning both a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Arts degree in Criminology. In 2001, Justice Cudjoe was admitted to the Ontario bar and began practicing primarily criminal law. He started his career in Toronto with the Duty Counsel (Criminal) Office before joining the law office of Michael Tulloch & Associates in 2002. In 2006, he co-founded Cudjoe Bremner Law, a criminal defence practice. He argued Charter cases with a focus on racial profiling and has appeared at all levels of Ontario court, including the Court of Appeal. Justice Cudjoe joined Legal Aid Ontario in 2015, where he most recently served as the manager of the Provincial Case Management Office. Since 2020, he has also been an adjunct professor at York University - Osgoode Hall Law School, teaching advanced criminal law with a focus on race and racism. Notably, from 2006 until his appointment to the Superior Court of Justice, Justice Cudjoe served as a director of The Second Chance Scholarship Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping at-risk youth through education and mentoring. We are confident that Justice Cudjoe will make significant contributions in his new role and wish him every success in his judicial career!
