We provide high-quality wollastonite and gneiss mineral products in Ontario, Canada from a low-impact mining operation

About us

Canadian Wollastonite (CW) owns and operates a world-class industrial minerals resource called the Saint Lawrence Wollastonite Deposit north-east of Kingston, Ontario. Of the 204 hectares at the mine site, 170 hectares are enhanced environmentally to mitigate the effects of the above-ground mine, including the creation of 12 hectares of ponds and 15,000 trees planted to date. CW produces refined and unrefined wollastonite for use in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, environmental remediation, wastewater treatment, metallurgy, carbon capture, and cement industries. Leveraging wollastonite’s unique properties, CW is actively building retail markets with in-house brands: CW Grow (farm and garden soil amendment), CW Grit & Grab (eco-traction sand), and CW Ponds+ (algae control). In addition, CW supplies performance aggregates into the transportation sector. The calcium in wollastonite has shown exceptional promise in capturing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while supplying calcium to plants in agricultural and forest soils. The combination of forest growth and inorganic carbon capture can result in capturing 9x the tonnage of wollastonite applied. CW recently initiated large-scale experiments to unlock wollastonite’s economic carbon-capturing potential.

Updates

  • It is a mouthful, but worth the effort. Wollastonite gets its name from William Hyde Wollaston who discovered it over 200 years ago. Little did he know he found one of the most environmentally beneficial minerals on Earth. From capturing carbon and boosting yields to mopping up heavy metals and binding excess nutrients, it is a white mineral for a green world.

  • There are big things happening for the climate and we are glad to be a part of it all. Bob Vasily spoke at Carbon Removal Canada's first 'Carbon Removal Day' where where real carbon solutions are being implemented in Canada. Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) occurs when you spread crushed up wollastonite or other specialized silicate rocks on the soil. The rocks release calcium, magnesium and other nutrients for crops while capturing and permanently storing a lot of CO2. It looks like ERW is one of the most cost effective ways to capture CO2, and it is shovel ready, we're doing it! In the near future, if all goes well, farmers will be able to profit by spreading silicate rocks on their fields while gaining crop benefits like ph balance and the release of valuable nutrients. There is now a road map in place for how to get there. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gtitYTWQ #bigthing #nearfuture #canada #farmers #mineralcarbonation #emissions #carbonfootprint #co2capture
