Voice of Canada's Transportation Fuels Industry
About us
The voice of Canada's transportation fuels industry. Canadian Fuels Association represents the industry that produces, distributes, and markets petroleum products in Canada--including 95 percent of the transportation fuels Canadians rely on to remain mobile and globally competitive. CFA members are the companies who process crude oil into essential products like transportation fuels and get those products to market. Our sector contributes over $5 billion to Canada’s GDP each year and employs more than 116,000 Canadians at 16 refineries, 76 fuel distribution terminals and 12,000 retail and commercial sites. One of our prime goals is to help our members meet the environmental policy objectives of government and expectations of Canadians without compromising their access to a secure, reliable and competitively priced fuel supply.

CFA member, Shell has announced the launch of two significant carbon capture projects: Polaris and Atlas. Polaris is expected to capture about 650,000 tonnes of CO2 annually at the Scotford facility, while Atlas, developed with ATCO EnPower, will provide permanent underground storage for the captured CO2. These projects, expected to begin operations by the end of 2028, build on the success of Shell’s Quest CCS facility and will reduce carbon emissions related to fuel production.
