  • As Canada enters 2025, significant changes in immigration policy are reshaping the nation's economic outlook. The federal government's reduced immigration targets are expected to slow population growth, potentially decreasing economic growth by nearly one percentage point over the next three years. This shift could impact the federal budget by approximately $50 billion over five years starting in 2025. While lower interest rates might partially offset these challenges, the country faces mounting pressure to address productivity growth, unemployment rates, and persistent affordability issues. The situation demands careful fiscal management as Canada navigates these structural economic changes. #CBGA #CanadianBusinessGrowthAdvisors #immigration_to_Canada #population_growth #canadian_economy

  • The 2024 Canadian Immigration Summit in Ottawa brought together experts and policymakers to discuss Canada’s immigration priorities and their role in shaping the country’s future. Over the two-day event, discussions ranged from leveraging immigration to deal with workforce shortages to fostering innovation in policy and programs. A keynote address was given by Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada / Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada, who provided a detailed overview of the 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan. He addressed both the opportunities and challenges of meeting immigration targets while providing integration and support for newcomers. Our President, Fedor Belomoev, joined a panel discussion to talk about the Start-Up Visa program and business immigration in general. Fedor shared his expertise on how the program has changed over 2024 and gave practical solutions to navigate the program successfully. It was inspiring to be part of this dynamic event and contribute to conversations that shape Canada’s immigration future. We’re grateful to The Conference Board of Canada for hosting such a meaningful platform for dialogue and collaboration. #CBGA #CanadianImmigrationSummit #StartUpVisa #BusinessImmigration #ImmigrationInnovation #EntrepreneurshipInCanada

  • Decreasing Quotas for Business Immigration PR in Canada According to the Immigration Levels Plan released by IRCC on October 24, Canada is significantly reducing its permanent residency quotas for Federal Business immigration, including the Start-Up Visa and other programs. In 2025, the target is set at 3,000 PR admissions, with a maximum of 4,000. In 2026, this target decreases to 1,000, with a minimum of 200 and a maximum of 2,000, which remains the same for 2027. This reduction underscores the tightening of opportunities for entrepreneurs seeking permanent residency through business programs, making early action and strategic preparation essential for those looking to secure their spot in the coming years. Additionally, as demand rises and opportunities shrink, it's expected that the overall cost of immigration and related fees may also increase.

  • Canada's immigration landscape shifts: Asian and African nations lead the way. In a significant shift over the past decade, Canada's immigration patterns have seen Asian and African countries rise to prominence as key sources of new permanent residents. India has emerged as the frontrunner, potentially contributing up to 148,894 new permanent residents in 2024, nearly quadrupling its numbers from a decade ago. The Philippines and China remain in the top three, while Nigeria, Cameroon, and Eritrea have made notable entries into the top 10 list. This trend marks a departure from traditional sources like the United States and the United Kingdom, reflecting Canada's evolving demographic landscape and increasing appeal to a diverse global population. #demographic_shift, #global_diversity, #immigration_trends, #permanent_residents, #canadian_population, #international_migration, #cultural_diversity

  • Work Permit Update for Entrepreneurs in the Start-Up Visa Program Entrepreneurs applying for the Start-Up Visa program have faced delays due to high demand and processing limitations. To address this, the Minister approved key changes to the SUV Work Permit, effective October 3, 2024, providing more stability and flexibility for those awaiting permanent residency. Key updates include: 1. Open Work Permit. The new Open Work Permit enables entrepreneurs to be employed by various organizations while advancing their start-ups. Unlike previous rules, now they are allowed to work for others for up to three years, providing the opportunity to earn additional income to support their ventures. 2. Extended Work Permit Duration. The new SUV Work Permit will now be available for up to three years, aligning with current processing times for Permanent Residence applications. Previously, entrepreneurs were limited to a one-year Work Permit. 3. Eligibility for Essential Team Members. The extended Work Permit will be available only to entrepreneurial team members deemed essential by the designated entity supporting the application, expanding previous eligibility criteria. 4. Transition for Existing Applicants. Entrepreneurs who submitted a Work Permit application before October 3, 2024, and wish to switch to the new open Work Permit must withdraw their previous application and submit a new one. This will not affect their Permanent Residence application. These changes are an important step in providing greater support to entrepreneurial talent in Canada while ensuring the immigration process remains efficient and responsive to the needs of the business community.
