Updates

  • Krista and Heather are together in the same physical space! We had to take advantage of this moment and create a video to update you on something we’re excited about. We’re delighted to share the new initiative we’ve been developing for 2025. We’ve spent a lot of time in reflection and discernment in recent months, trying to sense into what is most needed in the world at this time and how we can help meet that need. One of the greatest needs that we see is the need for leaders who have the skills for navigating liminal spaces. To offer our support in this, we’ve developed a program called Leadership for Liminal Spaces, in which we’re helping people to become Grounded Guides - leaders with the emotional intelligence, agility, adaptability, and stability to guide people through change and uncertainty. As part of this initiative, we’ll be doing a series of YouTube videos (starting with this one) to offer our reflections on what it means to offer Leadership for Liminal Spaces. https://lnkd.in/eMDs8qSR Check out https://lnkd.in/e-hjNF9W for more information and to register!

  • In a liminal space, an old story is deconstructed so that a new one can emerge. It’s like the cocoon which resembles neither the caterpillar it once was nor the butterfly it will one day be. This transformational process can be scary, lonely, and confusing. A leader who’s responsible for an organization, team, community, or family going through such a liminal space needs agility, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and decision-making capacity to meet the challenges of this time. At the Centre for Holding Space, we want to help you navigate the liminal spaces. Our new program, Leadership for Liminal Spaces, offers ten webinars which will equip you with tools and resources. • We are living in liminal times. As we look toward 2025, uncertain of the changes the next few years will bring, we, at the Centre for Holding Space, have been thinking about the kind of leadership we need to meet this particular moment. We want to equip people to be Grounded Guides, with the emotional intelligence, agility, adaptability, and stability to offer Leadership for Liminal Spaces. Read more about our vision for this and consider joining us this year! #leadership #liminalSpace #holdingSpace #webinar #emotionalIntelligence https://lnkd.in/enWRtNbv

I’m very excited to tell you about what’s coming up in 2025. We’re having an alumni retreat! And it’s happening just down the road from my home, on beautiful Vancouver Island! An Alumni Gathering Committee has been working hard behind the scenes to organize a special gathering for all alumni of our programs. This includes anyone who has participated in an in-person or online event or workshop hosted by a member of the team at the Centre for Holding Space or by me before the Centre was formed. (It could be anything, really - just as long as you’re connected to our community in some way.) We’ll gather for dinner on September 25 and end after lunch on September 28th. There will also be an additional day, September 24th, for Certified Practitioners. (More details will be sent to Certified Practitioners.) Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g-PvME97

  • The "new normal" post pandemic has, perhaps, not shaken out the way we thought it might. We are not now living with a deeper understanding of our impact on each other and our environment, nor are we making compassionate decisions to improve ourselves and our communities. In truth, many of us are still trying to function with nervous systems that have not had a chance to settle or regulate. The immediate threat of the pandemic might be over, but the stresses of political divisiveness, global conflicts, climate emergencies, and our own personal and private struggles continue to leave most of us reactive, turning inward, and balking at the effort of the empathy and compassion required of us to contribute to our own and other's needs. We are not saying we have all the answers nor that we think we have it all figured out. What we do have are the ability to create brave, safe spaces to normalize the emotions of these liminal times, to carve out time to help our nervous systems settle and co-regulate, and to provide tools that we can take into our lives to help us better #holdSpace for it all. There is still time to join this unique program - to be with others who are interested in learning with you, and who also want to become better equipped to help us all become better humans together. Check out our website at https://lnkd.in/g8ihe7Kx for more information and to register! #humanDevelopment #theGreatTurning #liminalSpace

  • Does holding space still matter?

View profile for Heather Plett, graphic

Author of The Art of Holding Space. Co-Founder at Centre for Holding Space.

Sometimes, I find myself becoming hesitant to use the term “holding space”. That might sound odd, coming the author of The Art of Holding Space and the co-founder of the Centre for Holding Space, but it’s true. Sometimes when I say it, the little voices in my head say “just stop - too many people are using this term and it’s lost its value.” BUT… my hesitance in using the term has nothing to do with my deep and abiding love for the practice. I believe it’s a practice that withstands time and cultural trends. One of the things that I believe is important about this practice is that it lives in the middle space between individual practice and relational practice. It’s a “me+we” practice. Read more about what I mean by that in the post. #holdingspace #practice #humandevelopment https://lnkd.in/gGUxBDDb

  • #throwbackthursday on a Wednesday. Here's a little reminder from 2021 Krista (2024 Krista dug it up because she needed to hear it) about not rushing through #liminal spaces. We can't skip steps. And we can't rush peple through their own steps, either. #HumanDevelopment isn't an instant process, it takes time, patience, endurance, and more liminal space than we'd ever choose on our own. If you want to grow those muscles, our How to Hold Space Foundation Program might be for you. We start this week, but there is still time to join us! Check out our website at https://lnkd.in/g8ihe7Kx for more information and to register!
