Allow yourself to believe in your capabilities, you are stronger than you think. Fear Focus. Being afraid is excellent motivation. You need something to push you through the hard parts of life.  Small Progress. Progress is a journey, every little step is important to the outcome. Failure. If you do not fail, you cannot learn. Aine McGlynn, has learned that there is no comfort when it comes to achieving your goals. Through many years working in the non-profit sector and tech industry, Aine’s discovery has led her to not only business successes but personal growth as well. Through Aine’s journey, she was able to ground herself with Rock Climbing - a favourite pastime as she is now a certified coach - and discover the connections between climbing and leadership. Life can be jagged and difficult, just like a rock face. But once you’ve started that climb, you have two options: fall or fight! Thrive Openly “Break the Status-Quo” Chanel Grenaway has dedicated herself and her practice to achieving equity and inclusion in the communities around her. She knows this work is urgent, as in “it should have been done yesterday.” Before becoming the founder of Chanel Grenaway and Associates, her experience working with the Canadian Women’s Foundation is where she cultivated her passions and started her journey on the path to progress. Now, there is no challenge she won’t take on, bringing her drive to battle for change. As a leader in community engagement, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and intersectional gender-based analysis, Chanel knows the conversation is difficult and ongoing. Being in the middle of it can be hard. People can be reluctant to change and not see the value of doing so. But breaking people out of the status-quo is her every day. When people try to stay in their comfort zones, Chanel helps create the path to pull them out. Chanel works hard for her clients and to realize her vision as a founder. She keeps her energy for the work by centering patience, practice, and mindfulness. She recognizes that embracing equity, and achieving thoughtful social change - takes practice, and “practice makes progress.”

Thrive Openly “The Cycle of Karma” After years of fighting for a place to fit in, Laurinda Lee-Retter discovered that you don’t have to follow the conventional path of business. Many different jobs in what she would call “traditional roles” made her feel trapped and outcasted. She used her love for the creative arts, her willingness to support others, and her passion for change and founded Kind Karma Company. Kind Karma is a social enterprise jewelry company in Toronto. They employ at-risk and unhoused youth while using art therapy to encourage inclusion, comfort and empowerment in their workers. As an outspoken advocate for balancing mental health in one’s professional life and private life, Laurinda knows that one of the ways to thrive is through personal care. Throughout her years as CEO and founder of Kind Karma, Laurinda knows it has not been without challenges. She has learned to overcome the struggle of imposter syndrome, and is still learning what it means to be a leader. She notices that in her experience, as a woman, she is more conscious about how she is portrayed. She is still finding balance between “being a leader versus being a b****,” while also struggling with the term CEO - “no I am a founder.” Laurinda has always wanted to fix every problem, but has come to realize that we are more effective when we work together. In order for her to remain successful and empowered, she takes that hour every day all to herself. It is where she gathers her thoughts, grounds her mind and can restart for the next challenge. As long as she is happy and thriving, she believes she has succeeded. #thriveopenly #kindkarma #womenempowerment #socialenterprise #entrepreneur #womeninbusiness

FEAR MAKES YOU FOCUS Aine McGlynn, PhD, a skilled entrepreneur, a nonprofit enthusiast, a technology expert and an eager and certified rock climbing coach, knows that discomfort and fear are excellent motivators on the path to success. Being a part of the nonprofit sector for just over a decade, McGlynn has faced her share of challenges, lessons, excitement, and achievements. She learnt that it was okay to not always be a “yes man” and to take steps to recharge, similarly to when you are faced with a difficult climb - take a breath, realize what you need in order to achieve your goal, and make that last push to the top. By finding balance between rock climbing and leadership, McGlynn has overcome the fear in order to focus. On July 17th, Aine McGlynn will be sharing her connections between leadership and climbing through ThriveOpenly’s “Lunch and Learn”! Don’t miss out… https://lnkd.in/gyNynmYy Openly is excited to be profiling leaders from all walks of life, connect with us directly if you are interested in participating. Learn how to connect life's discomfort and channel it into teamwork, decision-making, resilience and more… https://lnkd.in/gyNynmYy #thriveopenly #leadership #leaders #rockclimbing #socialpurpose #womenempowerment

Thriving in leadership is not always easy. Having to make difficult decisions for yourself and for others can pose challenges. Sometimes we need to dig deep to find resilience and inspiration. Sometimes we need inspiration from supportive and significant others. Thanks to our #GoodSparks grant, Openly is excited to launch ThriveOpenly - a summer-time celebration of social purpose leaders.  Over the next two months, we will profile entrepreneurs and small business leaders and will be creating a space for folks to learn more about what inspires them, what lessons they have learned and what keeps them going when the going gets tough. Learning what makes a strong leader can be different for everyone. Developing skills like strength, mindfulness, decision making and more can present itself in the most unlikely circumstances - like rock climbing! Our first ThriveOpenly session will feature Aine McGlynn, PhD where we will learn how rock climbing parallels leadership through resilience, strength, teamwork and more! Don’t Miss Out -  https://lnkd.in/gyNynmYy If you are or know of someone interested in OPENLY sharing their story you can connect with us directly! We are excited to talk with you and hear your stories, our individualities are what makes us THRIVE! #thriveopenly #thriving #womeninbusiness #womenempowerment #socialimpact #socialchange
