  • Hey, Pigs! We're excited to launch our new fundraising initiative, Penny Pigs, at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party next week. Penny Pigs is a fun and engaging initiative designed for community members who want to show their support for HIM and help raise funds for community programs that may not be covered by existing funding streams at HIM. A total of 50 piggies were locally made with the help of many incredibly talented hands from our Vancouver community, and they’ll be available for adoption starting next week (our special volunteers get first dibs ;)). If you’d like to adopt a piggy and become a HIM Piggy Parent, visit https://lnkd.in/gfUvmWMZ to join the adoption waitlist. We’ll contact you when a piggy is available for adoption!

  • Black, Indigenous, Asian, newcomer and migrant sex workers are disproportionately policed, surveilled, and violently harmed under policies, laws, and legal systems that purport to only criminalize the so-called demand, or purchase of sex work. Through collective discussion and KYR workshops with organizers, activists, researchers, and sex work advocates, we will discuss the impacts of sex work criminalization, and create tools for addressing racialized and gender-based oppression, as a fundamental feature of asserting and advancing the health, safety and human rights of sex workers. • October 10th is World Mental Health Day. Mental health, like any other aspect of our health and well-being, exists on a continuum, and it is important to remember that having a good mental health day is just as valid as having a bad one. Whether it is a loved one, a chosen family member, or a licensed professional, reaching out for support does not equate to weakness. Quite the opposite, being connected to community and feeling heard and validated for our nuanced experiences is a fundamental human need. You deserve to be heard, and we are here for you. Together, we are stronger as a community.
