About us

Founded in 1940, the Christmas Bureau is one of Edmonton’s longest serving non-profit organizations. Non-denominational and accessible to all Edmontonians in need, the Christmas Bureau coordinates Christmas giving by providing a one stop application process to receive three Christmas services - food and teen gift cards from the Christmas Bureau and coordinating with 630 CHED Santas Anonymous Inc. who deliver toys to children under the age of 13. While the process of determining a person's eligibility is a thorough one, it is marked by a spirit of compassion and generosity, respecting his or her dignity, integrity, confidentiality and rights. Our mandate is to provide a festive meal and to provide co-ordination of Christmas giving for Edmontonians in need. The gift is greater than one meal on one day at Christmastime. One act of kindness can impact someone for a lifetime. The Bureau is a registered non-profit society governed by a board of directors and administered by a small staff employed for a portion of the year.

  • At the end of the day (or holiday season), it’s greater than one meal. Thank you to everyone who came to our 39th Annual Christmas Bureau Breakfast, presented by Caron Transportation! It was truly a magical event and to see everyone again (or for the first time) was evident of the compassion and welcoming spirit this city offers. • Meet Fardowsa. This is her first season working for our Client Intake Team, including her first time decorating a Christmas tree…ever! “I’m originally from Somalia and we don’t celebrate much where am from. It felt exciting and comforting to have the chance to do something I’d never done before - and be brave enough to do. It means inclusion, it means being apart of something bigger than myself, and being brave to try something new and celebrate with my coworkers. I can also go home and try to share the experience with my son who never celebrated Christmas as well. This was a memory I will remember for the rest of my life.” So, if you’re currently sitting at work or school and just not in the holiday spirit yet - just remember Fardowsa and how one (new) act of kindness can bring so much joy!

  • They say Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but for some it can bring mixed emotions and feelings. Because depending on what curveball life has thrown your way this year, that feeling of joy is not always a guarantee. So, let’s take a moment and remember that feeling of kindness - and realize this is the true meaning of the holidays. Because for over 84 years, that has been our purpose. And that purpose is joy. Joy, it’s yours to give. Donate today at christmasbureau.ca/donate

  • It may be getting colder outside, but this new partnership with Strathearn Art Walk still feels like summer ☀️ Thank you for inviting our team and volunteers to participate in this year’s festivities. Not only were there great vendors and great works of art, but you’ve also helped contributed to more holiday meals for families this Christmas. Thank you. Merci. Hai Hai. Gracias. Danke. Salamat.
