Ciarb Canada is the Canadian Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb), the foremost professional body for dispute resolution professionals. Ciarb Canada has over 400 members across the country, encompassing counsel, arbitrators, mediators, adjudicators, academics, and experts. The Canada Branch was formed on July 1, 2017 - the 150th Anniversary of Canada’s Confederation. The Patron of the CIArb Canada Branch is The Rt. Hon. Beverley McLachlin, former Chief Justice of Canada. The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) is a not-for-profit, UK registered charity working in the public interest through an international network of more than 40 branches. We have a global membership of 18,000 individuals worldwide. We exist for the global promotion, facilitation, and development of all forms of ADR to maximize the contribution that dispute resolution practitioners make in keeping disputes out of the court system. In addition to providing education and training for arbitrators, mediators, and adjudicators, we act as an international centre for practitioners, policy-makers, academics, and those concerned with the cost-effective and early settlement of disputes, giving users confidence that the very best are helping to resolve their dispute. Ciarb Canada provides training and courses to develop dispute resolution skills and to achieve Ciarb accreditation as an Associate, Member, or Fellow; develops educational programming; hosts networking opportunities for ADR professionals; publishes a newsletter providing current information about matters of interest to ADR professionals and the Branch’s activities; and hosts an annual Fall Symposium on selected ADR topics.

Registration for the Accelerated Route to Fellowship (ARF) program in International Arbitration is now open! The CIArb Canada Branch is offering both a virtual session and in person session. The virtual ARF program will be held on May 2 & 3 and 9 & 10, followed by a 48-hour exam period. The in person session will take place on June 1 and 2 in Toronto. The Accelerated Route to Fellowship program is designed for practicing lawyers with substantial and/or complex dispute resolution experience (10 years minimum is typical). Successful completion of the program permits participants to apply to become Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, which allows the use of the designation FCIArb.
