The Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Toronto (CIBPA)

About us

The Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Toronto (CIBPA) is a non-profit member organization founded in 1952. Since then, we have earned a reputation with Greater Toronto Area communities and government for representing the interests and views of Canadians of Italian heritage. Our mandate is to promote and cultivate the business, professional, cultural and social interests of our members, and to serve as their local voice, as well as representing the Italian-Canadian community at large. We build and foster forums for the exchange of business and civic ideas and to encourage the growth of close-knit communities. Our organization provides much more than the simple practice of networking or exchanging business cards. We create events and opportunities to build sustainable professional relationships. And, as our way of giving back to the community and investing in future generations, we provide bursaries and scholarships to students in need through our dedicated education fund.

“Mending Broken Hearts”  As I reflect on the past year, I am reminded about the giants in our community doing great work. Congratulations to Gianluigi Bisleri and your St. Michaels team on the extraordinary milestone of conducting 250 minimally invasive surgeries in 3 short years.  It was around your arrival at St. Michaels 3 years ago that you came to the attention of the CIBPA. This is a phenomenal milestone, not only in patient care, but also in the reduction of hospital days that frees up space for more patients. Innovation creates efficiency, reduces cost, is a better use of machinery and equipment that improves the patient’s quality of life. What does this milestone mean to St. Michaels Hospital. The cost to stay one extra day in the hospital is very expensive when you add up a hospital bed, professional time, medical test and food etc. If one patient is released 7 days early, then 250 patients would free up 1,750 days to serve more patients. The magnitude of the savings are enormous. So, you would expect that St. Michaels would get a little extra funding in their stocking this Christmas from the Province in recognition of these these incredible savings. If you though that you would be wrong.  Unfortunately, the system does not work that way. With more private funding perhaps, we can see 500 minimally invasive surgeries in 2 years. The CIBPA will be hosting the annual Valentines dinner and dance titled “Mending Broken Hearts” on February 12, 2025, to generate funds to support Gianluigi and St. Michaels Hospital    CIBPA Toronto Chapter - Mending Broken Hearts We hope you will be able to join our CIBPA event for a wonderful evening filled with joy and hope.  CIBPA Toronto CIBPA Montreal Villa Charities Inc. In 1997 Joan Yim, approached Father Gregory Botte at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Toronto and enlisted his help to host dinner services from the basement hall. Together they embarked on Nonnina’s Table, an initiative centered on supplementing nourishment to anyone that required it in memory of Tina “Nonnina” Luciano goodwill efforts in the community. After the passing of Father Gregory in 2009, Nonnina’s Table’s services were relocated to Scadding Court Community Centre. My good friend Gianpietro Nagliati Bravi expressed respect and compassion for the work that Connie and the team were doing in the community. This year there was a shortage of toys. Gianpietro Nagliati Bravi, Mirela Lonian, Nearly Famous Enterprises Inc. CIBPA Toronto, Joanne Cocuzzo and I were humbled to support. There was over 1000 families that received food and Christmas toys today. This organization is absolutely incredible. When leaving the community center, I noticed kids skating on the outdoor hockey rink. There was a wooden structure which I assumed was some type of storage (4 foot tall ) as I climbed on top of the structure to take a better picture of the rink, Joanne pointed out that I might be actually standing on someone’s home. Parts of our city have encampments. It did not even cross my mind that there was a homeless person sleeping in this hand made 2 x 4 storage structure. I did jump off the box. We need to do more to combat homelessness and hunger. I am extremely grateful when people are able to give back in any way they can. By bringing awareness, by donating time, money, resources, whatever the help may look like. Thank you to Connie, Jill and all the volunteers. The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University held the 5-year celebration of The Creative School Cortona summer campus. The opportunity to study in such a rich cultural setting, where art, design, and media intersect with Tuscany's heritage, provides students at Toronto Metropolitan University with a transformative and immersive experience. The excitement and creativity that students bring to their work—and the ways in which they engage with local industry and academic partners—add immeasurable value to their education. With over 300 students having participated in The Creative School’s summer campus in Tuscany, Italy over the last 5 years, we are proud of the growth and success we’ve seen. Now, as we move into the next phase, we are eager to expand our networks in Tuscany and across Italy. Special thanks to the ongoing visionary leadership of Charles Falzon, Mohamed Lachemi, Dr. Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano, Cory Searcy, and many more. Special thanks to community, industry members who supported The Creative School, Robert Sacco, CMILT, CIBPA Toronto, and many more. Special thanks to The Creative School faculty and staff who have worked collaboratively with our partners to continue to build on our partnership, Joseph Medaglia, Kathleen Pirrie Adams, Tanya White, Sadia Kamran and many more. Special thanks to Aryaan Kanji and Maryam Shah for their leadership in curating the student exhibition for the 5-year celebration. #TheCreativeSchool #TheFutureIsCreative Photo credits: YYZ Media (founded by The Creative School Alumna)
