CITY OF HAMILTON LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT The City of Hamilton is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and we recognize that we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land so that we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners and caretakers.

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day to reflect on and reaffirm the City’s commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA). In Ontario, approximately 2.9 million people have a disability - roughly one in four Ontarians. Our city thrives on diversity, and people with disabilities are an integral part of our community and our workplaces. This is why, this year, we established an internal Accessibility Committee. The newly formed committee comprises representatives from all departments and will collaborate and assist with the City’s compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). While we recognize the work being done to make the City of Hamilton more accessible for all, we know there is more work to do. We will continue collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify, prevent, and remove barriers to our facilities, programs, and services, ensuring equitable access for all.
