New Westminster Fire and Rescue and Warming the Homeless are teaming up to hand out warming kits to those in the city who are experiencing homelessness. These kits will also be handed out by the Crises Response Team, the team that is part of the Crises Response Pilot Project. After years of planning and hard work, we are proud to announce we've reached a huge milestone for our Advanced Metering Infrastructure project - the installation phase! Starting on September 16, we will begin installing nearly 38,000 new, advanced electrical meters at homes and businesses across New Westminster. AMI will be better able to support the dynamic needs of a modern grid and will accommodate new and sustainable technologies that are part of New Westminster's climate emergency response. The City of New Westminster is proud to announce local recipients of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund, delivered in partnership with United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and @publicinno. Up to a total of $50,000 USD is available for distribution via microgrants to support New Westminster’s youth in completing a variety of climate initiatives that are aligned with the City’s Seven Bold Steps for Climate Action; to date, seven projects will receive funding this fall. The proposed projects of the successful applications align with the City’s climate priorities, are sustainable, and will have a positive impact for New Westminster.
