As a celebration of Earth Day, Story Environmental is pleased to announce, after obtaining permission from the City of Temiskaming Shores, our plans to convert the public easement on the East side of our office building into a wildflower garden. This patch of grass has required cutting during the growing season. Converting it into a wildflower garden will eliminate this work and the associated burning of fossil fuels from the lawn mower. In addition to being attractive, this cheerful garden will also create much-needed habitat for pollinators like butterflies and bees. Wildflower gardens reduce carbon emissions through root systems which extend deep into the soil, storing water and nutrients. We are excited to work on this project and to hopefully expand this idea to other areas of our city. If you want to take a step towards helping the environment, consider replacing some (or all!) of your lawn with a wildflower garden! Thank you to the City of Temiskaming Shores for giving us permission to convert this space to a wildflower garden, and to Jillian Wright, our project lead for this wildflower project. We will be planting this garden using seeds from a northern Ontario business called Northern Wildflowers Inc..
