The City of West Kelowna was grateful to be a part of the National Child Day workshop, Beyond Playgrounds & Programs - Local Government’s Role in the Mental Well-being of Children and Youth, together with the Central Okanagan Early Years Partnership, which included a presentation by Lianne Carley, policy lead at Vancouver Coastal Health. Attendees also had the opportunity to explore poster displays created by Early Childhood Education students from Sprott Shaw College and Okanagan College. The event brought together more than 140 participants from across the Central Okanagan from diverse sectors: Child care, early years, school district and post-secondary education, local government, mental health, foundations, college students and parents to engage in a dialogue that envisions a future where our children and youth have increased access to play, safety, participation, and social connection and belonging to create a happy, healthy and nurturing environment within all our communities. #WestKelowna #childrenandyouth #mentalwellbeing #protectivefactors #communitycollaboration #assetbasedcommunitydevelopment

The City of West Kelowna and Acting Mayor Tasha Da Silva were honoured to be a part of this ceremony. We extend our best wishes to all the OCCA JCF program graduates for a bright and successful future!
I'm thrilled to celebrate the graduation of our third cohort from the OCCA Communities Association Job Connect for Future (JCF) program! The JCF program, made possible through the generous support of the Government of Canada, Government of British Columbia and the RBC Foundation, provides vital training in workplace skills, resume-building, and interview preparation. It’s truly inspiring to see how far our graduates have come and the lasting impact this program continues to have on individuals and the broader Okanagan community. We’re also grateful to the Central Okanagan Foundation and the City of Kelowna for their core operational funding support, which has been essential for OCCA to survive and do this important work❤️ A heartfelt thank you to our incredible partners, volunteers, and supporters—your dedication makes all the difference in empowering these newcomers to thrive. We are truly grateful to the Okanagan College team, including Cindy Meissner, Mike Penninga, Leanne Clare, for their outstanding contributions as our JCF training partner. We also deeply appreciate the presence of the esteemed speakers who joined us to celebrate: Gavin Dew, MLA for Kelowna-Mission; Tasha Da Silva, Deputy Mayor of City of West Kelowna; Mohini Singh, Councillor for the City of Kelowna; Loyal Wooldridge, Councillor for the City of Kelowna; Kristine Bugayong, Executive Director of the Central Okanagan Foundation; Heidi Schwartz, PFP® (she/her), Community Manager at RBC; and Jennifer Gorman, Associate Director of Continuing Studies at Okanagan College. Our thanks extend to MP Tracy Gray and MP Dan Albas for sending their thoughtful congratulatory letters. Their support and recognition mean so much to our graduates and the community. Here's to a bright future for all our graduates and the continued growth of our diverse and vibrant community, with even more cohorts celebrating together in the coming year!🌟 Congratulations to Juan José Saavedra, Noushin Mahmoudpour, Amily Butz, Qiang Guo, Xueying (Michelle) Lu, Kin Chung Ken Lo, Haoxu Zheng, Gabriel Yuma, Gary Jiao, Lin Wang, Jonathan Saavedra Pienovi and David Xiu on your graduation and achievements!
