Civica launched a County-Wide Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) Program in May 2024. Spanning five years, the project addresses inflow and infiltration challenges across several communities, starting with one in Year 1. In the first community, flow monitoring and field investigations, including smoke testing and property assessments, have already delivered impactful results. Recent smoke testing uncovered 20 positive cases, with three cross-connections found at catch basins—key findings presented to the local council to highlight the program’s value. Guided by a comprehensive I&I Strategy, this project ensures effective methods to identify and eliminate inflow sources, protecting the local sanitary systems. In July 2024, Civica Infrastructure began the second year of the Sanitary Sewer and Manhole Condition Assessment. The project involved flushing and CCTV inspection of 18,500 meters of sanitary sewer and Level 2 inspections of 256 manholes. The goal was to assess asset conditions, prioritize repairs, and develop a comprehensive rehabilitation plan with cost estimates. Each asset received a priority rating, from high-risk assets requiring immediate attention to low-risk ones suitable for deferred repairs. This initiative ensured the resilience of sanitary infrastructure while optimizing resources and mitigating risks. We were able to deliver actionable solutions that enhance the community's well-being. A Blueprint for Sustainable Growth In 2020, the Civica embarked on an ambitious journey to shape a sustainable water future. Together with our partners, we tackled water, wastewater, and stormwater needs across 11 vital areas. Our Functional Servicing Strategy Reports (FSSRs) mapped each area’s unique needs, addressing system constraints, land use, and environmental impact. The insights gained are guiding smart, resilient solutions with timelines and capital costs to support a City’s rapid growth. Community engagement was at the heart of this project, with three Public Information Centers allowing residents and stakeholders to shape the future alongside us. Following a public review in June 2024, the final plan is now live, setting the City on a path toward sustainable urban transformation.
