2024 was a year of significant progress on one of the most critical health challenges of our time—brain injuries and their long-term effects. This year Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada, in collaboration with our partners, made significant impacts to the discourse and education on brain injuries, and advanced real changes to policies. Here’s how: • Met with government and appeared at the federal Standing Committee on Health to advance policies and awareness around CTE and brain health. • Made important advancements in brain research, contributing to the understanding and prevention of long-term brain injuries. •Provided essential support to individuals and families like Brendan Hynes and Shane Nedohin affected by brain injuries through our HelpLine and Project Enlist Canada’s Support Line, delivering guidance and hope when it’s needed most. As we look ahead to 2025, we remain committed in our mission of make lasting change. Together, we can build a future where no one faces the challenges of brain injuries alone. Hidden Heroes: Caregivers and CTE As athletes and military personnel face the long-term risks of CTE, their families often shoulder the burden of care. Bev Murdoch’s journey caring for her husband, Bob, highlights the incredible challenges caregivers endure. From navigating neurodegenerative diseases to managing associated mental health issues, caregivers like Bev are the unsung heroes who keep everything together, often at great personal cost. Bev’s courage in sharing her story is an inspiration to others who may feel overwhelmed or alone in their caregiving journey. By speaking out, she’s helping raise awareness and providing hope to caregivers everywhere. Let’s take a moment to recognize Bev and her daughter Katy Murdoch, CFA. 📣 Another step forward in brain injury prevention in Canada   Last week, we celebrated Rowan's Law Day in Ontario, where school children heard Rowan's story and learned the importance of properly recognizing and treating brain injuries.   Tomorrow, I will appear before the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Health to support Bill C-277, which seeks to establish a national strategy on brain injuries. Rowan’s legacy continues to drive change, and Bill C-277 represents another major step forward. 🧠   Kathleen, Rowan’s mother, shared with me how she believes "Rowan has fulfilled her dream of helping children because Rowan's Law has saved lives."
