Join us on November 4th for our biggest event of the year, the Greening Health Care Annual Forum: Pathways to Decarbonization! This event will feature a keynote welcoming Dr. Anita Rao to present the background, governance, and management of the ground-breaking collaboration at Trillium Health Partners, the important projects being implemented, and lessons learned that can help all hospitals work together on climate action. Across North America, hospitals are finding ways to achieve deep energy and emissions reductions in their facilities, and panelists in the Decarbonizing Existing Hospitals session will include representatives from Vancouver Island, New York, and Ontario. They will share their different approaches to project identification, financing, implementation, and operations which are reducing utility budgets as well as carbon footprints. In addition, we will have a panel of experts from across the industry including Dr. Anita Rao, Andrew Blair, Clifford Harvey, Michael J. Rohan, Pierre Iachetti, PAg, RPP, MCIP, LEED Green Associate, Matt Cannon, Rob Simpson, Rudy Dahdal, David Stolte and more. Today is the day! A reminder that your last chance to register for the Mayors' Megawatt Challenge Online Forum - "Implementing your Low Carbon Plans Where are we Today?" will occur at 1 pm today. As municipalities make their low-carbon vision a reality, ice rink facilities play a critical role in achieving greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals. One of the most impactful strategies is heat recovery from the ice plant, where waste heat generated by refrigeration systems is repurposed to serve other areas of the building. However, designing and implementing an effective heat recovery system can be challenging. Join Wajahat (Waji) Sohail, P.Eng, PMP, Cristina Guido, Devin Gillis, and Szeto for our panel discussion as we discuss the challenges and solutions to this. Together with Ecosystem, Lakeridge Health has endeavored to reduce the carbon emissions of our facility in Oshawa. The results of this project are equivalent to removing 1,150 cars from our city streets annually! Thank you to Climate Challenge Network for providing the forum to discuss our project.
Yesterday, our Ontario team enjoyed an insightful and interactive day at the Climate Challenge Network’s Greening Health Care Annual Forum: Pathways to Decarbonization. Across North America, hospitals are finding ways to achieve deep energy and emissions reductions in their facilities. In the Decarbonizing Existing Hospitals panel, Matt Cannon, Senior Director, Infrastructure and Capital Development, spoke about Lakeridge Health's Oshawa Site Project LHEAD, and the approach to procuring and financing the deep energy and decarbonization retrofit project. “In the RFP we provided business partners our timeline and GHG reduction requirements of our Low Carbon Economy Challenge incentive – we let them work out how to get there, and held them accountable for achieving those goals. We’re now on track to completing our project by March 31, 2025 and exceeding the GHG reduction target required.” Learn more about Project LHEAD here: https://ow.ly/cxMh50U0keI #decarbonization #sustainability #deepenergyretrofit Asaph Benun Geetha Paonam

This year’s Greening Health Care Forum brought together healthcare leaders to share practical steps in reducing emissions as the urgency of climate change grows. Hospitals are key players in this effort, with 2030 emissions targets approaching quickly. The speakers highlighted successful examples where clear plans, internal champions, and external support are helping to make progress possible. These conversations are a reminder of the importance of collaboration and action in building a more sustainable future for healthcare. Thanks to Doug Waterston & Mayank Juneja for attending our tabletop at this year's forum! 📍Climate Challenge Network 📸 Condair USA/CA 📸 XNRGY Climate Systems 📸 Blade Air #SustainableHealthcare #ClimateAction
