Key take aways from Day 1 of the 8th Annual Patient-Centered Approach to Clinical Trials Conference (hosted by Colorectal Cancer Canada): - We need to stop thinking in terms of a perceived duality of "research patients" and "regular patients" within our healthcare systems in order to increase and enhance care universally in #Canada. - Shift the paradigm to "Research IS Care" in Canada. - Need to implement long-term funding plans for research projects - Need more (in amount and frequency) public awareness campaigns for #clinicaltrials. - Hospitals and other healthcare institutions should be accredited as "research ready" centers of excellence where all HCPs and support staff obtain fundamental training on TCPS2 and GCPs. - #Clinicalresearch training should be provided as a basic course in undergrad life sciences programs at the University level. Future generations of physicians should be aware of the benefits of clinical trials and the importance of ongoing research as a complimentary form of providing care to patients. - Bring legal experts to the table when discussing ways to improve the review process for CDAs/NDAs, Clinical Trial Agreements, etc. The goal is to make legal review more efficient and faster. Feel honored, humbled, and inspired to have been witness to an amazing keynote luncheon at #MTC24 sponsored by Hologic, Inc., where tennis giants, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, shared their unique story of rivalry, competition, close friendship, and surviving #cancer together. Key take away lessons: (1) your rivals can become your greatest teachers, (2) it's possible to become stronger through empathy when changing your focus from competition to collaboration, (3) listen to your body and don't dismiss warning signs... be your own health advocate, and (4) tackle challenges head-on with grit and determination to find solutions... don't give up... and keep hope strong through your support network. Finally, (5) to all my colleagues who work tirelessly in #medtech, #pharma #biotechnology and #lifesciences (especially in #clinicaltrials), know that your hard work is paying off every day as your innovations continue to save lives and improve the quality of life for millions. Engaging with the community: Organize or participate in outreach programs to educate the public about clinical trials and their significance in #healthcare. If possible, engage or be a part of patient group discussions. 5. Supporting research: Donate to organizations conducting clinical trials or volunteer for research studies if eligible. 6. Learning opportunities: Take the time to learn more about #clinicaltrial processes, ethics, & regulations through online resources, books, or workshops.
