Calgarians need to stop complaining about their neighbour’s dogs. At least according to our furry friend and VERY good boy, Gilmore 🐶 But in all seriousness, we know that some neighbour’s dogs are a little less easy to love. Especially when they bark all the time or at odd hours of the night. Or when their owners are a little forgetful and tend to not clean up after them 💩 Although we agree with Gilmore that we should learn to ‘love thy neighbour’ (which also includes their furry companions) This can be challenging at times. That’s why we offer free mediation services to the community of Calgary and surrounding area. Find out more (link in comments).

Are Tesla robots a new opportunity to annoy neighbours? We hope not 🙅♀️ Sure… you could ask your robot to: → collect the 💩 your neighbour’s dog left on your property and throw it on your neighbour’s doorstep → take down the fence your neighbour put up → blast loud music in 20-minute increments when you’re out of town on holiday Really the possibilities are endless (can you think of some?) But we hope you won’t do ANY of these things. After all… why would you make things worse with your neighbour, When there’s free mediation services in your community? Shouldn’t you be using your Tesla robot for more important things? Like mowing your lawn, collecting your mail, trimming your trees, and more! We hope you will use your new Tesla robot to build bridges and foster connection with your neighbours, Rather than using it to create conflict and tension. Let us know in the comments how you will use your new Tesla robot? Or do you even want one? Interested in learning more about free mediation services in Calgary and the surrounding area? Have you ever used a free community mediation service? (or are you planning to?) Maybe you didn’t know that all of our conflict mediators are trained volunteers. We would love to give a warm community welcome to one of our newest volunteers, Jennifer Garrison, PhD. Jennifer Garrison is a woman who wears many different hats: mediator, university professor, and labour relations professional. She became a mediator after witnessing the damage - interpersonal, professional, psychological and communal - that occurs when people avoid dealing with conflict directly. Instead of allowing conflict to fester or explode, mediation offers participants the opportunity to openly discuss conflict in a way that is honest, respectful, and empowering. Whether the conflict is about a single noise complaint or a workplace relationship that has been deteriorating for years, she loves seeing the relief on mediation participants' faces when they finally feel their pain and frustration has been understood. She enjoys working with CMCS because she can play a small part in building a healthier, more democratic Calgary community. Where neighbours might disagree passionately... But are more willing to listen to, learn about, and respect each other. Would you like to learn more about our newest volunteers and the free mediation services we offer to Calgary and the surrounding area? 8 reasons you SHOULD NOT sign up for free mediation. Have a conflict with your neighbour and wondering if you should sign up for our mediation services? We’ve put together this list to help you decide. (scroll through each image to learn more). You should NOT sign up for mediation if you: 1 | like the sound of your neighbour mowing the lawn at 5am every Sunday (it’s like a free alarm clock). 2 | fall asleep more easily when your neighbour’s dog barks all night. 3 | don’t mind that your neighbour took down your fence without asking (they have to look at it every day too). 4 | enjoy cleaning up after your neighbour’s dog, isn’t that what neighbours are for? 5 | like listening to your neighbours blast music all day. Now you can cancel your Spotify subscription and benefit from the free concert. 6 | think falling leaves and branches add a special je ne sais quoi to your property. 7 | love how the smell of smoke 🌿 brings you back to the ‘good ole days’. 8 | want to spend your hard-earned money on expensive legal fees and lawyers. Now… If NONE of these apply and you have a conflict you would like to resolve with your neighbours… You should sign up for free mediation with Community Mediation Calgary Society (CMCS). Although we offer no guarantees, we do offer free mediation services to help open communication with your neighbours. You might be surprised at how helpful it is to have an impartial 3rd party to ease along communication in a peaceful manner. Ready to see if you qualify for free community mediation? Are dog owners getting better or worse at cleaning up after their dogs? Did you notice an excess number of dogs being walked off-leash? Spring and summer are often the times we notice these things more than usual. The weather is beautiful and the sun is shining, Everyone wants to get outside and enjoy it. Including pet owners. As a pet owner, it’s important to remember your responsibilities and the city bylaws, So that you can be a good neighbour! Remember: → every dog 3-months or older needs a license → dogs must remain on a leash at ALL times unless indicated by posted signs or on your property (no longer than 2 meters if on a pathway) → you need to always pick up after your dog both off AND ON your property (did you know this?) → dogs are not allowed on school grounds, playgrounds, sports fields, golf courses, cemeteries, or wading/swimming pools Want to read the full list of city bylaws regarding dogs? Head over to the City of Calgary's website. Did you know you have to pick up after your dog even on your own property? Let us know. If your neighbours dog is driving you crazy, we might be able to help. See if you qualify for a free mediation! (link in comments)

Does free mediation to resolve conflict with your neighbour sound too good to be true? (it’s literally a click away). Sure, if your neighbours are annoying you could… → blast music → call the police → leave stuff on their property → and resort to other passive aggressive behaviours But realistically where is that going to get you? Do you actually think it will encourage your neighbours to be less annoying? To do the things you want them to do? No. Would you want to listen to someone else if they were resorting to passive aggressive actions to get your attention? Also no. That’s where our free mediation services come in. Sometimes you need an impartial third party to help resolve a conflict. And the best thing is… Our services are completely free. Find out if you qualify for free mediation and book yours now by clicking the link in our bio.
