Thank you to those who joined us for an informative evening with Bryan Yu, Chief Economist with Central 1 Credit Union. We learned from Bryan that while Canada’s economy remains in a state of constant flux, the next phase is clear. In his presentation, Bryan noted that interest rates were declining as inflation normalizes and were still expected to continue on a downward trend. He explained that economic risks are mounting while the government is implementing wide policies around population and housing. Bryan believes the US is likely to add tariffs on most Canadian goods and services once Trump takes office and he spoke about how this will affect Canada. Speaking to an audience of Islanders, Bryan described how the Vancouver Island economy is affected and how he sees a positive economic outlook for the Island more so than other places in Canada. Island-based businesses are experiencing challenges today, yet Bryan says they may feel an overall sense of optimism when they look at potential results over the longer term. Bryan leads a team conducting macro- and regional economic analysis for Central 1 and the broader credit union system. He consults regularly with a network of economists and other experts in North America. He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from Simon Fraser University and serves on the boards of S.U.C.C.E.S.S., the B.C. Paraplegic Foundation and the Canadian Association for Business Economics. Bryan gave us much to think about as we set our personal and business financial goals for the coming year. Thank you, Bryan, for sharing your expertise with all of us! ~This event was co-hosted by our Commercial Services and Wealth teams. Coastal Community Private Wealth Group

Jessica shares how the Circle of Security parent program at the Nanaimo Child Development Centre (NCDC) has helped her family. The program provides resources and reduces barriers for families so they can attend programming at the Centre. The Centre serves over 1,900 families each year, providing early intervention services and school age services, including speech therapy and support for children living with ADHD. Coastal Community donated to the Circle of Security parenting program through our Sharing Our Success initiative: https://lnkd.in/gaXFvb9t

“The lodge is going to make a big difference in a lot of people’s lives,” says Stacey Marsh Executive Director with the Campbell River Hospital Foundation. Marsh says the hospital serves 32 communities on north Vancouver Island and the outer islands. People living in the northern region have to travel long distances to be with their loved ones who are undergoing medical treatment. The lodge will be a place for them to stay that's close to the hospital, with 10 rooms, a communal kitchen, laundry facilities and communal living and dining rooms. Coastal Community is one of many island businesses who have donated to the Just Like Home Lodge at Campbell River Hospital. Funds were made possible by our Sharing Our Success initiative. The Foundation’s goal is to raise $2 million to make the lodge a reality. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gZTWKE3Y
