While we had the Commissionaires Centennial Baton & Flag for the cross-Canada tour, we visited many clients and commissionaires. As a symbol of comradery and tradition, the baton was passed throughout Southern Alberta – from Calgary to Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and CFB Suffield. These wonderful engagements will be a mark in the Commissionaires’ history as Canada’s largest private sector employer of veterans. Last week, we were honoured to meet with Calgary Mayor, Jyoti Gondek, who we learned has family connections to the military! We appreciate the opportunity to celebrate the upcoming 100-year anniversary of the Corps of Commissionaires across Canada with Mayor Gondek and some of our veteran commissionaires. Those in attendance: Back Row – Left to right: Gerald Borbridge, former CPS Chief of Police; John MacCormack, CWO (Ret’d) CF; John Slater; Dan Clayton Sergeant (Ret’d) CPS; Kevin Haughton; Shane Monte, CMC, Flight Lieutenant (Ret’d) RAAF; Knut Rokne; Guy Audet, CPO 2 (Ret’d) CF; Sharon Crowell Front Row – Left to right: Steve Henderson, CPS Veteran; Mark Rodgers; Rob Hobbs, LCol (Ret’d) CF; Dean Constable (Ret’d) CPS; Ray Romses, BGen (Ret’d) CF & current CSAB Board Chair; Jyoti Gondek; Dennis Ellahi, CSAB CEO; Rodney Deir, MWO, CF; Brendan Maguire, PO1 (Ret’d) CF; HeidiLynne Balasch

Today, The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, announced the designation of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires as an event of national historical significance under Parks Canada’s National Program of Historical Commemoration. Minister Guilbeault stated, “For almost a hundred years, the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires has provided veterans, families of veterans and former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police | Gendarmerie royale du Canada with employment support in recognition and commemoration of their valuable role in service to Canada.” At Commissionaires, we are honoured to be recognized as part of our nation’s rich history. We are also grateful to the Government of Canada and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada for recognizing our century of service to Canada! • In commemoration of Remembrance Day, two of our longstanding veteran's John Markwart, CD, and Leslie Bowden, CD, attended a ceremony in Vulcan, Alberta. They laid a wreath on behalf of Commissionaires during the ceremony, and were honoured to represent our division in support of the veterans who made profound sacrifices for Canada during times of conflict and war. At Commissionaires Southern Alberta, we take time to reflect on and remember our veterans — not just today, but every day. We remain committed to supporting veterans and their families, both within our communities and across the country. #RemembranceDay2024 #VeteransWeek #Commissionaires
