CNCLT is on the ground in Ottawa for the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) Conference - excited to learn from and connect with the brilliant folks here!
About us
The Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts (CNCLT) is a network of over 35 emerging and established community land trusts and allied organizations working together to ensure the success and growth of the Community Land Trust (CLT) model throughout Canada. The goal of the CNCLT is to support the growth of community land trusts with the primary purposes of providing permanently affordable housing and other community assets that serve low-to-moderate income people. CNCLT was established in July 2017 in response to renewed interest and emerging challenges associated with the CLTs in Canada. Since establishment, the CNCLT has organized regular peer-to-peer networking meetings, knowledge exchanges, and webinars on CLTs. In 2021 CNCLT formally incorporated as a non-profit corporation after receiving funding from the CMHC Demonstrations Initiatives, under the Scaling Stream, to develop a Technical Assistance Program to support the growth of Canadian CLTs. We recognize that the Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts and its members are working on the traditional territories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people. Centuries of colonialism have dispossessed Indigenous people of lands they have stewarded since time immemorial. Operating within a landscape of stolen land and broken treaties, it is imperative that the Network and its members support Indigenous self-determination and land restitution through tangible actions.

Great work!
Hannah Fleisher and I wrote a piece on cultural CLTs for Spacing: "With the Community and Cultural Spaces Trust, artists and planners explore the community land trust model as a solution to the cultural space crisis." With thanks to Community & Cultural Spaces Trust and Spacing.ca.

That's a wrap, folks! Our second annual #CLTSummit was an incredible international gathering of folks from across Turtle Island working towards a transformative vision of communities stewarding the land which sustains them. Thank you to the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations for their thousands of years stewarding the beautiful land on which we gathered. We were incredibly lucky to meet and learn from Indigenous leaders and matriarchs from the Downtown Eastside Community Land Trust, Xaxe Tenew Sacred Lands Society, Women of First Light, and Sogorea Te Land Trust. A special thank you to the growing cohort of Black-led community land trusts working towards cultural redress and daylighting the often invisiblised legacy of Black people in Canada: Hogan's Alley Society, Little Jamaica Community Land Trust, Upper Hammonds Plains Community Land Trust, Weymouth Falls CLT, DownTheMarsh CLT, New Roots Community Land Trust and other emerging African Nova Scotian community land trusts. Thank you to our other local CLTs who support the Summit: Community Land Trust and Cultural Land Trust. Thank you to our amazing slate of speakers - far too many to tag in the post. Thank you to the 312 Main team for the perfect venue, Showstream Technology Inc. for A/V, and HAVE Culinary Training Society for catering. Thank you to our major sponsors Tapestry Community Capital, Vancity Community Investment Bank, Vancity Community Foundation, Balanced Supply of Housing Node, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Société canadienne d'hypothèques et de logement(SCHL), and Community Housing Transformation Centre. When I say land, you say ?

Wonderful to share the stage again this year with Brian McBay of the Cultural Land Trust at the 2024 CNCLT Summit. Thanks to the Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts for giving us a space again this year to talk about our small niche within the CLT world, and our friends at Wavelength Music and the City of Toronto (Erika Hennebury, MES, MCIP, RPP) for contributing to our presentation.
Canadian Network of Community Land Trusts summit is on! Happy to be joining Hannah Fleisher at Community & Cultural Spaces Trust to talk about Cultural Land Trust on the learnings from out west on the State of Preservation (and Loss) of Cultural Spaces. Incredible venue at 312 Main
