Thank you to Canada's Premiers for supporting our call for an extension to the deadline for charitable giving. This measure will make a difference for countless Canadian charities and the people they serve, in Canada and around the world. I am hopeful that our collective advocacy, that we at Cooperation Canada have been leading in partnership with Imagine Canada and Health Charities Coalition of Canada, will pay off. It is time to make it happen! Grateful to Shannon Kindornay, Bernadette Johnson, Connie Cote and Bruce MacDonald for the collaboration on this important joint effort. Shout out also to the Cooperation Canada members who have been amplifying this advocacy in different ways.

Seems as though we have really reached one of the last chances for the government to offer much needed relief for the charitable sector as many organizations experience a significant drop in year-end giving. The Canada Post strike continues to disrupt millions of charitable donations, leaving charities and communities facing financial challenges well into 2025. A simple solution is within reach: the federal government can extend the donation eligibility period, ensuring Canadians can make their year-end contributions despite the delays. However, recent political events have stalled progress on this much-needed measure. As the holiday season approaches, this action is more urgent than ever.
