Each of us grieve in our own way. But most grievers know how daunting & disorienting the wilderness of grief feels. Safety and security become an illusion. Nothing is the same. From a dozen years reconciling to my loss, I offer you 3 signposts to guide your steps forward. Movement requires taking little steps forward. Getting stuck in bitterness & resentment only prolongs the process towards healing. Just as the GPS in my car helps me find my way when I’m directionally challenged, a biblical GPS helps me find my bearings as I grieve. Consider this GPS as a guide as it has the power to steer you in the best direction. Give it a try. #meaningfulmonday #selfcare #grief #griefcoach #bereavement #griefawareness #griefsupport #bereavementsupport #griefeducation #griefresources #griefandloss #griefeducator

Imagine for a minute that your spouse passed away less than a year ago. You’ve been a pair, life partners for decades. You hardly remember not being a couple. Reconciling to a life of singleness is far more difficult than imaged. Your home is quiet. It’s terribly lonely. You miss the affection of the person you adored. Valentines’ Day approaches. You cringe. It hurts to think of being without your love. Out of habit, you go to the mailbox expecting to pick up flyers and a few bills. But a surprise awaits you. There’s an envelope addressed to you that stands out. Beautiful handwriting indicates this is not a computer generated letter. It’s personal – a beautiful card. A friend took the time to acknowledge your loss & let you know how much they care. Your heart feels a bit lighter. You’re not invisible. You’re seen & valued. Now… it’s your turn. Go be that kind of friend to someone else. Think of guy or gal who will be missing their special person on Valentine’s Day. Don’t delay. Mail that card today or deliver it in person. Spreading kindness to others will bring a little piece of healing to your own broken heart. #NationalSendACardToAFriendDay #griefsupport #griefawareness #bereavementsupport #griefcoach #hopehero #grief #wellbeing #valentines

Most people don’t know what is helpful to say or do for a grieving friend. It can feel awkward. Right? Often our fear of doing the wrong thing stops us from doing anything. But avoidance is not a caring option. Let me offer some guidance. I help those who feel uncertain —about how to support someone grieving—so they feel prepared to be present with compassionate support. Don’t let your discomfort prevent you from being the caring friend you’ve always wanted to be. Knowing how to effectively express empathy can rescue a griever from despair. It’s a real shame. Kind words & love expressed at a funeral are missed by the person for whom they are spoken. At the funeral of his young wife who left behind 3 precious pre-schoolers, Dan began the final of several tributes. With emotion he shared an observation. If only his wife had known how he and many others valued and loved her. Perhaps suicide wouldn't have been an option. Sometimes those closest to us—like our spouse—are the ones who we forget to express our appreciation. Instead of regretting missed opportunities and things left unsaid, let’s make it a habit to speak affirming words. In celebration of #nationalspouseday (Jan 26), speak words of appreciation for your husband or wife. Don’t keep it a secret. Post below one quality you value about your spouse. Go ahead. Brag about the one you love. And don’t just tell us, tell them, too! #nationalspouseday #griefawareness #bereavementsupport #griefsupport #griefcoach #SuicideAwareness #meaningfulmonday
