Today, on Human Rights Day, we reflect on the enduring promise of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights—dignity, equality, and freedom for all. At COSTI, we are proud to turn these values into action. Our programs help newcomers overcome challenges, find meaningful work, and integrate into Canadian society, overcoming systemic barriers and fostering empowerment. From youth workshops and networking events to the Women in Tech program that helps women start careers in IT, our initiatives open doors to equitable opportunities. COSTI recently released a blueprint to support immigrant, refugee, and racialized women facing gender-based violence. By uplifting marginalized communities and breaking barriers, we create pathways to inclusion and equity. On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to building a society where everyone can thrive. Immigrant, Refugee, Ethnocultural, and Racialized (IRER) women across Canada are facing Gender-Based Violence. IRER women face unique vulnerabilities like cultural barriers, precarious immigration status, and limited support networks. They need culturally responsive and comprehensive support to overcome these challenges. COSTI’s blueprint on Gender-Based Violence is a community-based, evidence-driven initiative that provides the essential framework to ensure the safety and empowerment of IRER. If your organization works in this space, we invite you to include insights from this blueprint in your practice.
