At Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, we are always in search of new insights to inform and support our ongoing work to make a difference in the lives of children and youth across Canada.    To ensure that we have our fingers on the pulse of the latest feedback from kids coast-to-coast, we have once again launched our State of Play survey with #ProjectPlay. This voluntary nationwide survey of Canadian youth ages 8-18 will serve to inform our long-term plans at Jumpstart, ensuring that the work we do reflects the interests and needs of the kids we support.    This easy, secure and online survey is now available to schools, youth sports organization and community partners. If you would like to add your community's voice to the State of Play survey, or learn more about the survey, we warmly invite you to register your organization at https://lnkd.in/gQZCduEV   The State of Play survey is integral to the work we do at Jumpstart, and we look forward to sharing the results with all Canadians in our upcoming 2025 State of Play Youth Report later this year. I am intentionally getting ahead of this now. Because this topic is too important to get lost. Before you start to read all the incredible stories that will be shared during the International Day of the Girl on October 11th, I wanted to also share that we still have a lot of work to do. Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities' State of Play report dedicates an entire section to the intersection between race and gender and shines a light on some of the important gaps that still exist in our efforts to make sport affordable and accessible to as many kids as possible. For example, girls of color have the highest proportion of youth who report not participating in sports anymore since the pandemic. Or that compared to white girls and white boys, a higher proportion of girls of color choose not to play sports because they feel like they are not good enough to play, because they lack information about available sports programs, and because they do not want to get hurt. And that across groups of intersecting racial and gender identities, girls of color report the lowest occurrences of representation among their coaches. These are among the reasons why Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities created Play To Lead – a program designed to foster a powerful network of women and girls and to provide an enabling environment for high-school aged athletes to reach their full potential as leaders in, and through, sport – while also advancing gender equity and diversity in sport. We can only close the gaps that still exist when youth are involved in designing the solutions. It’s why we are so proud of Play To Lead and what it will accomplish. And why we are so proud to work with partners like Canadian Women & Sport | Femmes et sport au Canada, Fast and Female Supporting Women in Sport Foundation and She's4Sports, among others. There is much for us to celebrate on October 11th. And much more for us to do.

This year in Jumpstart’s (Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities) State of Play Report, Basketball was listed as the most expensive sport to play based on the average registration costs and 1 in 2 households reported not being able to afford sports. While we know how important sport is for youth development, we understand that barriers to sport participation are increasing. Equitable access to sport matters, now more than ever. Barrier-free models are necessary for the future of youth sport. Together with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, Lay-Up can continue to provide access to basketball through cost-free, place-based programs designed around the best practices of Positive Youth Development. Here’s to giving more kids the tools they need for life through sport! #ProudPartners #Jumpstart #AccesstoBasketball Check out the full State of Play Report in the comments section below!
