  • The Government of Canada has announced a temporary GST/HST “Holiday Tax Break” for the 2024-2025 holiday season from December 14 to February 15 on a number of items purchased in Canada. This means no GST or HST will be charged to consumers or remitted to the Canada Revenue Agency by businesses on qualifying items sold during this time. The Cape Breton Partnership has compiled available information and developed this infographic to share some key details about this change to the GST and HST this Holiday Season. We will also work with local business community partners to offer a workshop in early 2025 to share further resources and help the business community navigate this temporary change to sales tax. Stay tuned as information is made available on this future workshop. • 🐑🐄🐖 Agri-Commodity Management Association 🐖🐄🐑 The Connector was pleased to speak with Kara Chisholm, the Executive Director of the Agri-Commodity Management Association (ACMA) last week to learn more about the supports they offer the Agriculture Industry. The ACMA has been in operation in Nova Scotia since 2010 when the NS Cattle Producers, the Sheep Producers Association of NS, Pork NS, the NS Federation of Agriculture, and the NS Department of Agriculture came together as they saw the need for professional and administrative support for small agriculture commodity groups in the Province. The vision of the ACMA is to be the leading provider of quality professional services for farmers and the farm community in Atlantic Canada. The ACMA works with many unique commodity groups and provides Board and Financial Management based on the specific group’s needs. Their services are provided to not-for-profit organizations on a case-by-case basis. Some boards go for full management, some just for financial management, while others want support with organizing Annual General Meetings. One benefit to non-profits working with the ACMA is that the ACMA have an excellent staff with a variety of skillsets. Their experienced staff help to improve board efficiency and therefore the organization as a whole. In addition to professional and administrative support the ACMA administers a Federal Government Program called the Advanced Payments Program. This is a program for farmers who have either Agri-Stability Insurance or Provincial Crop Insurance. Essentially, what this program provides are loans up to $1 000 000 with the first $250 000 interest free to help farmers manage their cash flow. Loans are based on 50% of the crop or livestock’s market value. These upfront payments can help farmers manage upfront input costs such as seed and fertilizer expenses to help optimize cash flow and to be able to make market decisions based on market conditions as opposed to the immediate need for cash. The loan is repaid when the commodity is sold. The ACMA is happy to walk through the program with farmers and will advise on the best approach for their farm needs. If you are a farmer looking to learn more about ACMA programming, please visit their website: https://agricommodity.ca/ #ConnectingCumberland 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g7y5BSd7 #CumberlandCountyNS #NovaScotiaBusiness #EconomicDevelopment #NSagriculture #cattlefarmersns #sheepfarmersns #porkfarmersns #buylocal #growlocal #nsloyal #agriculture #ACMA
