Canberra Racing Club (CRC) were facing a water crisis in 2019 after a multi-year drought. Their source of water from Icon Water was being restricted. The water was essential for the minimising the dust exposure to their human and equine athletes that use their training facilities. CRC contacted Eco-Road Hero for dust mitigation that was also water efficient. Eco-Road Hero worked with the Canberra team to deploy Dust/Blokr® technology onto the sand based exercise tracks. This was completed using existing equipment and without any impact to the facility operations. Dust/Blokr® was developed by Cypher Environmental as an environmentally friendly dust control technology. Cypher are based in Winnipeg, Canada. Dust/Blokr® has zero chlorides and has been used in equine sport, aviation, mining, general roads and forestry Dust/Blokr® reduced the dust related complaints from 2-3 per week to ZERO. Canberra Racing Club reduced their water usage by 90% on the treated tracks. The total water saving since 2019 has been over 180 Megalitres across all the treated tracks. This is water saving equivalent to over 70 Olympic sized swimming pools. #racing #thoroughbredracing #horseracing #horses #equinesport #equinehealth #dustcontrol

  • Why Choose ROAD//STABILIZR® for Soil Stabilization Over Cement for Your Roads? Using cement for road stabilization can be costly and logistically challenging, requiring large quantities of material to be transported. For example, stabilizing just one kilometre of secondary road with cement at 5% by weight could require well over 100 tonnes of material! The percentage used depends on the engineering specs and specifically, on the density of the material to be treated. Cement stabilized materials also become brittle – once they crack, there’s no remedy. In contrast, with Cypher’s ROAD//STABILIZR, the same project would only require 40 litres of product! The roads also remain self healing to a certain extent and can be graded to repair any surface imperfections. The benefits are clear – by choosing ROAD//STABILIZR, you are choosing a more affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly solution for your roads. #EnvironmentalImpact #SoilStabilization #DustControl #Cleantech #Sustainability #Innovation #NonToxic #NonCorrosive #Mining #Forestry #Aviation #Transportation #Agriculture

  • In the past, hydrocarbon-based products and road salts were the go-to solutions for dust control, but they come with major drawbacks. In addition to being very toxic to the environment – there are major performance issues that could be impacting the safety and efficiency of your operation. 🛢️ Hydrocarbon / emulsion treated roads: performance of the road is often compromised in wet conditions since water and oil don’t mix and can cause the road surfaces to become slippery. They also require frequest re-application, and once any maintenace on the road is required, a full strength dose is required again for optimal results - not a very effeicient approach! 🧂Road salt treated roads: road salts absorb moisture and suppresses dust by keeping road surfaces moist. However, during and after rain events, too much moisture can be retained making road surfaces slippery and dangerous. DUST/BLOKR® provides a better, safer and more reliable solution. It works by penetrating the road, binding the surface materials and maintaining traction, even in wet weather. Learn more about our dust control solution for slippery roads: https://loom.ly/_hHsatQ

  • Mines are massive operations that require significant investment, and every decision made can have significant downstream impact on OpEx and ultimately, your profits. We often ask our customers – have you considered the integration of a robust road management strategy into your overall heavy equipment management strategy? If not, you are leaving money on the table, as the saying goes. Better roads, leads to less maintenance requirements and costs on the equipment using them. Here are a few points to consider – • Prolonged Tire Life: when your haul roads are smoother and have less deflection (less rolling resistance), less friction is placed on the tires, helping to extend their life and reducing the frequency of replacements. • More Sustainable: fewer tire replacements means less waste. • Prolong Equipment Lifespan: when you include dust control in your road management plans you can help prolong the lifespan of your mining equipment by reducing overall wear and tear of moving parts, increased filter life and reduce collision occurrence, due to improved visibility. • Increased Fuel Efficiency: stabilized roads reduce Rolling Resistance, which is the force (energy) that is required to accelerate and maintain a constant speed over a given surface, making your haul trucks more fuel efficient. • Increased Productivity: when haul trucks can operate more efficiently, cycle times are shortened, increasing overall productivity So, if you are looking to reduce your OpEx, it might be time to take a closer look at your Road Management strategy. With Cypher Environmental’s road management solutions – ROAD//STABILIZR® and DUST/BLOKR® (which also has an added benefit of stabilization), not only are you reducing your OpEx, you are also adopting more sustainable mining practices while increasing your social license to operate. 👉 https://loom.ly/tcNtPPs

  • Did you know road salts were labeled toxic under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) in 1999? That's right—25 years ago, we recognized their environmental harm, yet they're still widely used in government contracts. Why? Because they're cheap. Sadly, even eco-friendly alternatives like those from Cypher Environmental can’t be purchased, as road salts are often required by procurement specs. This is greenwashing on a massive scale, affecting our environment across Canada. It’s time for change. #EnvironmentalImpact #SoilStabilization #DustControl #Cleantech #Sustainability #Innovation #NonToxic #NonCorrosive #Mining

Long-Term Performance of Haul Roads: Dust Control vs. Road Stabilization Effective haul road management hinges on understanding the distinct roles of dust control and road stabilization. Each serves a different purpose, and choosing the right approach can transform road durability, reduce costs, and lessen environmental impact. Dust Control: Minimizing Surface Dust and Visibility Hazards Dust control products primarily target airborne particles, improving air quality and visibility for safety and compliance. Traditionally, these require regular moisture, usually through frequent watering, to bind fine particles on the surface. However, these surface treatments often need daily or weekly reapplications, especially in dry or high-traffic areas. This constant moisture introduces risks: excess water penetrates below the surface, weakening the road’s foundation over time, resulting in rutting, potholes, and instability. With Cypher Environmental Ltd’s DUST/BLOKR, we challenge this model. DUST/BLOKR is designed to control dust without daily or weekly reapplications, drastically reducing the need for moisture and helping to preserve the road’s structural integrity. Road Stabilization: Reinforcing the Entire Road Foundation In contrast, road stabilization techniques enhance the road’s structural integrity from the ground up. Stabilizers penetrate the deeper layers of the road, binding soil and aggregate to create a robust foundation that withstands heavy loads and resists erosion. Unlike surface-level dust control, stabilization provides dust reduction by addressing the root causes of surface degradation, and it significantly reduces the need for constant moisture. This approach offers durability and long-term maintenance savings. Challenges of Over-Reliance on Moisture-Based Dust Control Traditional dust control methods relying heavily on moisture can lead to: Structural Weakening: Frequent watering can soften the road base, leading to cracks and surface instability. Resource Waste: Time and resources go into continual reapplications, diverting focus from core operations. Environmental Concerns: High water usage isn’t sustainable, especially in dry regions where conservation is essential. Choosing the Right Approach: Matching Dust Control and Stabilization The decision between dust control and stabilization isn’t binary: Short vs. Long-Term Needs Water Availability Primary vs. Secondary Roads Rethinking the Model: Integrating Both Approaches Rather than seeing dust control and stabilization as competing, combining both can yield maximum impact. Applying dust control for immediate air quality alongside stabilization for foundational strength offers a sustainable, low-maintenance haul road solution. By moving beyond traditional water-intensive methods and embracing a combined approach, we set a new standard for efficiency, resilience, and environmental responsibility in mining operations.
