We attended the IPAC PEI Leadership Panel last week and the public sector community on the Island really showed up! The panel of inspiring public leaders challenged us to think critically about how tackling issues like volatility, affordability, and productivity can help get ahead of the challenges that threaten trust in public institutions, the social safety net, and social cohesion. A big thanks to IPAC PEI for having us. We're thrilled to have played a small role in pulling it together.

Mike Davis recently participated in a panel on navigating policy landscapes and effective government engagement. Mike’s perspective connected the dots from government relations to implementation—highlighting Davis Pier’s critical role in supporting the civil service in shaping smarter policy and driving outcomes that benefit both government and community. Big thanks to Canadian Public Relations Society - Nova Scotia for having us and for the engaging conversation. #GovernmentRelations #GovernmentPolicy #CPRSNovaScotia

If the evidence is so compelling, why isn’t there more investment and focus on public spaces? And, how do we move to action? I recently had the opportunity to join a panel with two experts on the health and wellbeing benefits of great public spaces at the Evergreen Canada Conference. Eileen De Villa and Kate Mulligan covered the compelling evidence of the impact of public spaces have on enhancing community health and wellbeing. I layered in the perspective of how to move from “knowing” to “doing”— both within government and with community. There is significant opportunity to unlock government investment (while also better utilizing private sector dollars) across the health, community and social service, and infrastructure sectors. By thinking about the impact of public spaces in these areas, we can create well-packaged, integrated solutions and make better use of health, housing, and education investment. The key, however, is to ensure these investments lead to solutions that have been designed with the public, have strong government support, and a market to best mobilize the private sector where possible. And we also need to think about how people, whether in community or government, make decisions. At Davis Pier Consulting, our expertise is in helping government do better, smarter things and we’re always happy to talk about it.

This month was a big one for our partners at Evergreen Canada and we are fortunate to be along for the ride. We soaked up the 2024 Evergreen Conference, delivered a workshop on measuring the impact of public space, and got people thinking about different approaches to cross-sector collaboration and unlocking investment. A big shout out to the team at Evergreen for another inspiring and action-oriented opportunity to connect and further the case for place.
