  • Deetken team members are exemplified by our commitment to improving the lives of our fellow Canadians–both through our client work and through our engagement and volunteer work in our communities. 💪 Today, we are proud to congratulate Deetken Associate Partner Robin Shaban, PhD on being named a Fellow at Social Capital Partners. Headquartered in Toronto, SCP is a non-profit organization that invests in projects, conducts research and advocates for transformative public policy ideas that will reduce unsustainable wealth concentration and create pathways for working people to build economic security. 💰 As a Fellow, Robin will advise and support SCP over the coming year to identify practical solutions to the challenges we face and scope out new projects and initiatives that can be implemented at scale. Deetken positive change–in action. ❤️

  • "When Tamara Little, owner of Coast Communications and Public Affairs, and Julian Whike, a partner at Deetken Insight, randomly met in January 2023 at a GVBOT event, they never imagined they would be business partners and co-founders of an AI company 18 months later...." Thank you to the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade for featuring our blog post about our partnership with Coast Communications and the launch of Middle Ground, https://middle-ground.ca/! #AI #artificialintelligence

We’re excited to celebrate the ongoing interest and success of Middle Ground, our AI-driven consultation and engagement tool developed with Deetken Insight. • October is Women’s History Month and the theme this year is “Women at Work: Economic Growth Past, Present and Future.” As economists and analysts, Deetken frequently uncovers interesting facts about the important role women play in driving Canada’s economy and innovation. For example, did you know…. 💪 Women’s contribution to Canada’s GDP is increasing, rising 2.8 percentage points between 2008 and 2018 to 28.5%, compared to men’s contribution which increased 0.5 percentage to 49.2% during the same time period. (source: Statistics Canada) 👩💼 In 2020, about one in five (20.5%) directors of Canadian corporations were women, up from 17.9% in 2017. Close to one in three (31.4%) officers, who lead the day-to-day operations of a corporation, are women. (source: Statistics Canada) 💸The gender pay gap, the difference in hourly wages between men and women, has narrowed in recent years to 12% in 2022, however, it still remains stubbornly high among Indigenous women (20% in 2022), demonstrating the need for continued change in this area. (Source: Statistics Canada) Let’s take this opportunity to recognize the important working women in our lives! #WomensHistoryMonth

  • Are you a city planner 👷♂️ or an economic development organization 🏗 looking to demonstrate the economic impact of a major capital investment in your community? Perhaps you’re a provincial policymaker 🏛 looking to evaluate the impact of a proposed development on the regional economy, jobs and government revenues? 💰 If so, you are familiar with an Economic Impact Analysis, a tool used to estimate the economic impacts of a proposed project, policy or program. 📈 Deetken has been providing economic impact analysis and modelling to local and provincial governments, trade associations and other organizations for nearly 20 years. In that time, we have developed several highly refined economic models and modelling techniques that allow us to measure not just the “direct” economic impacts of a project (GDP, jobs, wages, etc.), but also the “indirect” and “induced” knock-on effects a project can have on other businesses and households within a given jurisdiction, whether that be all of Canada or a specific province. Some examples of the additional knock-on effects we can measure include: 👉 The effects of a development project on other local goods and services such as concrete makers and electricians. 🏗 ⚡ 👉 The effects of a development project on additional spending by employees involved with the project or their suppliers, like a construction worker using their paycheque to buy a new bike 🚲 or take a trip to Whistler. ⛷ Our clients leverage these detailed results to better communicate to their stakeholders and other audiences the full extent of their project's potential benefits to local economies. To learn more about Deetken’s expertise in economic impact analysis or how we can help your organization estimate the economic impact of a planned project in your community, contact us at inquiries@deetken.com. #economics #economicanalysis #economicimpact  https://lnkd.in/egqxJWHT

  • On Thursday, the Deetken team held a virtual event to recognize and reflect on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We opened the meeting with land acknowledgments by staff in our Vancouver and Victoria offices and Ontario and then held a screening of two videos. The first by Parks Canada focused on the history and legacy of residential schools and National Truth and Reconciliation. The second video was produced by First Nations Health Authority and covered its efforts to create a Cultural Safety and Humility standard to address Indigenous racism and discrimination in BC’s healthcare system, a first of its kind in Canada. We then held a group discussion regarding the videos. We are proud of the opportunity we have to work alongside our clients to help transform current approaches to health and human services, policing, natural resources production, and other sectors and to address injustice and work toward a future of mutual respect and understanding. We are optimistic about the future.  We encourage all to watch these two videos and to pause and reflect.  https://lnkd.in/e-hvRHts   https://lnkd.in/e_iEn8Nt   As a reminder, Deetken will be closed on Monday in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. #NDTR #EveryChildMatters
