🇨🇦 News from the Canadian wind sector Canada takes a big step towards utilizing the potential of offshore wind energy. The province of Nova Scotia has confirmed a coming into force of legislation to enable development of offshore wind. This agreement is part of a joint management regulatory framework to develop offshore energy and is a step toward realizing the Maritime Canadian Provinces massive potential for offshore wind. If everything goes according to plan, Nova Scotia will offer leases for 5 GW of offshore wind by 2030, with the hope that the first tenders will be launched in 2025. The aim is, that it will strengthen the economy, create more jobs and attract new investments. This development will give Danish companies the opportunity to share their competences with Canadian counterparts within energy. It also makes Nova Scotia the first province in Canada to seize opportunities within the offshore wind sector. With its long coastlines and optimal wind conditions, Atlantic Canada is well positioned to invest in offshore wind energy. Additionally, Canada has announced their new membership in the Global Offshore Wind Alliance (GOWA). The country’s involvement in this alliance is one step further on their path toward advancing offshore wind. If you want to learn more about the Canadian wind sector, feel free to reach out to Christian Faurholt. Denmark in Canada #windenergy #offshore #DenmarkinCanada #WorkingforDenmark

  • Nordic Ambassadors visit Prince Edward Island! Yesterday, Ambassador Nikolaj Harris and the Ambassadors from Iceland, Finland, Norway and Sweden concluded a two-day visit to Prince Edward Island. The visit kicked off on Monday with a visit to the wonderful Government House in Charlottetown, and a good meeting on the relations between Prince Edward Island and the Nordics with the Honourable Dr. Wassim Salamoun, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. The Nordics and Prince Edward Island all have long coast lines and are strong in the fisheries and sea food as well as agricultural sector. PEI is also - like Denmark🇩🇰 - a producer of high quality potatoes exporting to the whole of Canada🇨🇦 as well as abroad. PEI is focused on renewable energy and has wind energy in their energy mix (also from Danish wind turbines!) and take inspiration and knowhow from the Danish energy Island Samsø. All this was naturally part of the very good discussions with the Honourable Rob Lantz, Premier of Prince Edward Island, as well as the Honourable Gilles Arsenault, Minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Action.   Day two continued on the topic of climate change and sustainability with a tour of the Fish Health Unit of the Atlantic Veterinary College, University of Prince Edward Island. Following the tour, the Ambassadors were honoured to be guest speakers and take part in the discussion at the University of Prince Edward Island’s Climate Change Policy and Policy Class with Dr. Yuliya Rashchupkina. Great to meet students and to discuss international issues including climate change and Ukraine, but also on how to increase cooperation between Canada and the Nordics. The final stop of the visit went to the School of Climate Change and Adaptation. PEI and Denmark in particular shares challenges in the field of coastal erosion, where there is room for more cooperation and knowledge sharing between Denmark and PEI. The Nordic Ambassadors were very impressed with the school and the new impressive facilities. Ross Dwyer   The Nordic Ambassador’s tour will continue on to New Brunswick. #DenmarkInCanada #WorkingforDK Government of Prince Edward Island | Embassy of Iceland Canada | Embassy of Sweden in Canada | Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ottawa | Team Finland Canada

  • Denmark will accelerate the build-up of its defence capabilities The Danish Defence Intelligence Service as has assessed that within a few years Russia could pose a credible threat to one or more NATO countries if NATO does not build up its own defence capabilities at the same rate. Denmark will shoulder its share of the burden, and the urgency of the situation demands an acceleration of the build-up of the warfighting capability of the Armed Forces. As a consequence, Denmark has decided to accelerate the build-up of Danish Defence with an additional 50 billion Danish kroner (CAD ~10 billion) allocated over the coming two years and a reorganization of the Danish Ministry of Defence to help speed up investments. With the increased funding Denmark will allocate more than 3 pct. of GDP on defence in 2025 and 2026. •  The acceleration fund will channel 50 billion Danish kroner (CAD ~10 billion) in 2025 and 2026. •  With the Acceleration fund, Denmark will now allocate 3,2 % of GDP on defence spending. •  All in all, 120 billion Danish kroner (CAD ~24.1 billion) in total are allocated until 2033 to strengthen the Danish Defence, taking into account NATO demands and capability targets and support for Ukraine. •  The agreement also entails initiatives to streamline and increase efficiency of decision-making processes to advance investments and build-up of the Danish Armed Forces. This includes increased use of direct awards in acquisitions, where applicable. •  Denmark has made numerous commitments to bolster its defence in the recent years, while also being one of the top contributors to Ukraine. • Denmark and Canada – collaboration within health💫 Canada and Denmark have a good and constructive strategic cooperation within the area of Health. In both countries, Universal Healthcare is a fundamental part of society. Canada has a lot to offer Denmark, and we are certain that we can learn from each other. That is why we collaborate closely with government partners on both Provincial and Federal level through memorandums of understanding and on-going activities addressing health care challenges and potential. In Denmark, most people have a family doctor, and access to healthcare is a big priority. This article from CBC describes how Denmark (and the Netherlands) can inspire with new solutions and has something to offer Canada when it comes to primary care and organization of a universal healthcare system. We look forward to continuing our dialogues with our trusted partners and inspire one another! • Last week the Danish commander of NATO’s Multinational Division North based in Latvia, Major General Jette Albinus, visited Canada for talks on cooperation and operations, and to see the final evaluation of the 2nd Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group deploying to the Baltics as part of NATO’s presence in the Baltic. During her visit in the National Capital Region, she also visited the Danish Embassy in Ottawa to talk about the NATO mission in the Baltic countries, the well-established cooperation with the Canadian led Brigade, Multinational Brigade Latvia (MNB-LVA), and the Canadians stationed in her headquarter. Denmark is, together with Latvia, the framework nation for the multinational division, permanently rotating staff and troops to the division. #NATO #WorkingForDenmark Danish Ministry of Defence | Department of National Defence/Ministère de la défense nationale | Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark | Canadian Armed Forces | Forces armées canadiennes | Forsvaret | Jacob Bay Lindkvist | Kasper Flinker Ladegaard
