Due to the Canada Post strike, some of our mailings may be delayed, which could impact the vital funds we rely on during our annual giving campaign. Distress Centre Calgary is the only 24/7 crisis and emotional support service available throughout the holiday season in the Calgary region. We ensure those experiencing challenging situations are not alone. Your donation today can make all the difference, ensuring people in need receive support and hope when it matters most this holiday season. You can give securely online through the link below, or if you’d prefer to donate by cheque but are concerned about delays, contact us at donate@distresscentre.com and we'll arrange a time to pick-up the cheque (within Calgary city limits). You can also drop off a cheque at our office at 999 8 St SW, Suite 500, Calgary, AB. Our reception is open between 9am-12pm and 1-5pm except on weekends and statutory holidays. Let’s not delay hope—together, we can ensure no one will face their challenges alone. 💚 https://lnkd.in/d3kzy87Y

We’re incredibly grateful to the Flaman Foundation for their generous support of our Coordinated Entry program! 💙 Last year, we connected over 4,434 individuals and families at risk of or experiencing homelessness with supports and services to holistically support their housing, health, and financial goals. With Flaman Foundation’s help, we’re ensuring that more people in our community find the stability they need—and deserve.

A huge thank you to Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) of Alberta for their generosity in donating pet food to our Coordinated Entry program. For those we support who are facing or at risk of homelessness, pets are so much more than companions—they’re their steadfast family, offering love and comfort through challenging times. Thanks for making sure our furry friends and family can be supported too! 🐕🦺🐾

Congratulations to DCC board member, Sarah, for receiving the Hazel Gillespie Community Investment Leadership Award! 🎉 For the past 2 years, Sarah has brought passion and dedication to her role as a DCC board member, and we couldn’t be more proud of this accomplishment! Sarah has built strong, lasting relationships with community leaders and funders, helping to restart important initiatives after COVID-19. At MEG Energy, she leads a team that guides the company’s community partnerships, working closely with local organizations and Indigenous communities. Her efforts have supported projects like the Indigenous Healing Garden at Alberta Children’s Hospital and programs at Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids. Thank you, Sarah, for your incredible dedication to making a difference in our community! 💙 And a big thank you to MEG Energy Corp. for taking this lovely photo! #award #yyc #mentalhealth #community

This #GivingTuesdayCA, we’re sharing stories of hope. Thanks to our volunteers and supporters, we’ve been there for those who needed support, no matter the reason. *Trigger warning: The following paragraphs may be emotionally challenging and will speak of suicide. Karen, one of our crisis volunteers, shared this impactful story about a man contemplating ending his life. “One night a man called, and told me he was driving away from home, he was going to kill himself. He had done a suicide video for his son. I talked to him for almost 2 hours." "He phoned back a few weeks later and told me he got the counselling he needed, and he wanted me to know he was safe. He said he just kept calling hoping someday I would pick up the phone.” -Karen, volunteer This story of hope amidst crisis is just one of the hundreds we’ve encountered, since 1970. When life’s challenges become overwhelming, we want you to know that we are here. Your donation ensures that we can continue being a lifeline for those in crisis. Help us stay here—for you, for those in crisis, and for our community. https://lnkd.in/d3kzy87Y
