It's a bittersweet day today at DSRF as we celebrate the retirement of longtime team member Nimet Tejpar. Nimet joined the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation in 2001, and apart from a brief hiatus in the early 2010's, she has been part of the fabric of DSRF for almost a quarter century. She has worn many hats in her tenure, including Events Coordinator, Program Administrator, Office Manager, Facilities Manager, and most recently Accounts Receivable and Finance Clerk. We are so grateful for all that Nimet has contributed through the years and for her dedication to DSRF. We are so sad to see Nimet go, but at the same time, we are excited for this next step in her life. Congratulations and thank you for a job very well done, Nimet! We hope you enjoy some well-earned rest!

We appreciate the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA)'s call to strengthen programs that support structurally disadvantaged populations who are most affected by the consequences of climate change - which certainly includes the disability community. Stay tuned for a webinar that we'll be hosting on Earth Day on Down Syndrome in the Era of Climate Change.
The devastating #Wildfires in Los Angeles serve as a stark reminder of the escalating health risks posed by climate change. From dangerous air quality and respiratory issues to the displacement of vulnerable populations, the public health impacts are vast and far-reaching. CPHA calls for urgent action to not only mitigate climate change but also to strengthen community resilience. Government policies that prioritize reducing greenhouse gas emissions, transitioning to renewable energy, and protecting natural ecosystems are essential. Programs that support structurally disadvantaged populations – those most affected by the consequences of climate change – must be maintained and expanded. #PublicHealth depends on proactive, science-based climate policies. Without them, we risk a future of worsening environmental disasters, greater health inequities, and overwhelming strain on our healthcare systems. It's time to act decisively to safeguard the health and well-being of present and future generations. https://lnkd.in/gmnhF-s

Thank you to all who gave generously to the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation's 2024 Flourish for Life campaign. Your donations directly support DSRF's vital preschool programs, equipping children with Down syndrome for school success and giving parents confidence as they approach this new stage of life. Those first few years of education lay an indispensable foundation, so it is imperative that students be given every opportunity to succeed. In one grateful parent’s words: "DSRF has been a beacon of hope for us." We could not bring this hope to families without you. Thank you for being a part of our mission to help people with Down syndrome Flourish for Life! Did you miss your chance to give? There's still time to get a 2024 tax receipt! Due to the impact of the recent Canada Post strike, the government of Canada has announced that donations made on or before Feb 28, 2025 will be eligible for a 2024 charitable tax receipt. Give now at DSRF.org/Donate.
