As DERs scale and play an increasingly critical role in our energy systems, how can we determine the market potential and capture their true value, considering nuances such as interactions between technologies and competing use cases? Join Dunsky Consultant Amara Slaymaker at this year’s Energy Modelling Hub - Carrefour de modélisation énergétique Conference where she will dive into DERs and discuss the technologies and trends impacting the distribution system with other experts, on Tuesday, December 10th. We’re looking forward to connecting with clients and peers at this year’s event. Dunsky will have a strong presence, including Alex J Hill, Isabel Taylor and Charles Marois. If you’re in Ottawa next week, be sure to say hello! 👋

☀️ Solar PV is an energy transition success story, but the traditional one-size-fits-all Net Energy Metering (NEM) paradigm is showing its age as the industry increasingly focuses on the value DERs bring to the grid. Dunsky has tackled this problem for utilities, regulators and customer groups, and knows that these (sometimes at odds) organizations can be brought to the table – if the right approach is used. In our second of three articles for Utility Dive, we explore how a Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) framework fosters productive conversations by providing a data-driven, transparent solution that fairly compensates DERs for their contributions to the grid while minimizing cross-subsidization.
