EMBERS is a social enterprise working with Western Canadian communities to combat poverty & strengthen local economies.

About us

EMBERS is a registered Canadian charity whose mission is to create economic and employment opportunities for people by providing them jobs, training, and support. We seek to empower individuals into economic self-sufficiency so that they can build their best future. Since 2001, we have provided a comprehensive array of job placements and support services that address the full employment continuum, from pre-employment to sustainable employment. EMBERS has won multiple provincial and national awards for our community impact and initiatives aimed at getting people back to work and building a better future. We offer employment opportunities and services through several key programs: EMBERS Staffing Solutions is a multi-award winning social enterprise that connects companies with high quality workers in construction, warehousing, security and events. Our business model provides individuals with temporary and transitional jobs, acting as a bridge to full-time employment. EMBERS Training provides soft skills workshops, hard skills certified training and one-on-one support, primarily in the construction industry. EMBERS Eastside Works is an income generation hub that helps people improve their livelihoods by accessing odd jobs and short-term work opportunities in the community, along with targeted training and one-on-one support.

Unlike the greater population that is exposed to much of Elections Canada’s online presence, and/or has a mailing address, many Downtown Eastside community members do not have regular online access or a mailing address. This poses many hurdles to getting timely and accurate information, and difficulty voting is compounded frequently by an absence of ID. Eastside Works is proud to partner with Elections Canada to do outreach in the community and combat these brarriers to electoral participation. 🗳️ #DowntownEastside #InspireDemocracy

Some Canadians face unique challenges when registering or voting. Through the Inspire Democracy program, Elections Canada works with organizations across the country to reduce barriers to electoral participation. Today we're giving a shout-out to: • Alliance for Healthier Communities • Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness • EMBERS Follow them to see what initiatives they have planned! #InspireDemocracy [Video description: Reducing barriers to electoral participation with Alliance for Healthier Communities. 🏳️⚧️ Today, on the Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honour the lives of transgender and gender-diverse individuals lost to violence and reaffirm our commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive world. This day began in 1999 in memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman whose tragic death spotlighted the violence faced by trans communities. Over 25 years later, this global observance calls us to action as allies. Need support or want to learn how to help? 🧡 ’Tis the season for giving, and this year we’re hoping YOU can help us expand our impact! Today marks the launch of our 500 Boots Challenge, an expanded effort to support workers in our community as they step into meaningful employment opportunities. 🥾 Why boots? For many, a sturdy pair of work boots is the first step to entering the workforce with confidence and safety. But for workers facing financial challenges, acquiring proper boots can be a barrier to employment. Your support can help 500 individuals enter the workforce prepared and motivated, creating a ripple effect that benefits families and communities. Every $150 brings us closer to one pair of boots and one transformed life. Donate here and receive a Charitable Tax Receipt before the end of the year: https://lnkd.in/gzRbQ_yY #vancouverbc #canadacharity
