🌱 BSF Frass natural abilities to protect crops demonstrated! We’re proud to share a fruitful collaboration with the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre where they have evaluated the biostimulant and biopesticide effect of our Black Soldier Fly Frass (BSFF) on cucumber, a crop known to be sensitive to fungal diseases. The protocol developed by Vineland aimed at proving that BSFF was able to protect inoculated cucumbers against Pythium ultimum and understand the biological mechanisms behind this natural defense response. 🛡️ Enhanced resistance, less disease! Cucumbers treated with 1% BSFF (our ento-frass) have shown a better control of the inoculated disease, with lower impact on leaves, roots and stems compared to the plants having received a standard organic fertilization. 🌿 Biostimulant properties of ento-frass: The Vineland study was also able to make the link between the natural defense response of the plants and the molecules helping them to react against pathogens. These specific responses demonstrate the potential biostimulant effect of ento-frass. 🔜 More to come : Our next post will provide more details on how ento-frass had an impact on cucumbers metabolism in this study, opening the way to a new natural solution to help plant protection in greenhouses. What a week! entosystem's sales teams was definitely "out there" this week: 🌱 Maurice Dagenais was at the Biostimulants World Congress in Miami (remember, frass is not only a great organic fertilizer, it is also a natural biostimulant.) 🐦 Stéphane Breton was at The Wild Bird Feeding Institute (WBFI) annual meeting in Charleston, SC (chickens are not the only birds to deserve our golden insect larvae, right?) 🐶 🐱 Ludovic Lair was at the Pet Food Association of Canada annual conference in Quebec-City, with an organized complimentaty visit at our facility nearby prior to the conference. 🌱 Nouveaux horizons pour la fertilisation biologique dans la culture du bleuet sauvage au Québec 🌱 Le Québec est un leader dans la production de bleuets sauvages, et les options de fertilisation en mode biologique restent limitées. En collaboration avec Acti-Sol et le Club Conseil Bleuet, nous avons voulu explorer le potentiel de notre frass de mouche soldat noire dans cette culture, après avoir constaté son efficacité en cannebergières biologiques. Les résultats sont probants : la combinaison de frass et de fumier de poule Acti-Sol rivalise avec l'engrais synthétique conventionnel, atteignant des rendements similaires tout en surpassant la solution biologique actuelle.
