This #GivingTuesday, we raised funds for children with disabilities in Malawi. 🙌 Together we raised $16,910 — enough to feed 704 children who suffer from malnutrition for two months or bring assistive equipment to 96 children living with a disability. These are more than numbers. They represent lives being transformed! 🩵 Thank you for helping children in Malawi live a full life, regardless of the barriers they face. It’s Giving Tuesday! With your support, we are bringing nutritious food and life-changing medical equipment to children living with disabilities in Malawi. Our partner, Children of Blessings Trust, runs health outreach clinics in communities in rural Malawi. These are life-changing for single mothers and their disabled children, who receive care and support in many ways. Today, you can help a child like Desiree* learn to walk like other children. When Desiree started attending our partner’s rehabilitation program, she couldn’t walk on her own. One day, she saw a chair in the therapy room, pulled herself up and pushed the chair around the room. She was so excited! She then learned to walk using a walking frame and, after lots of practice, started walking on her own. Children of Blessing Trust doesn’t just bring medical equipment to children with disabilities. Many children, when they first come to outreach clinics, are malnourished. 🌍 People living with disabilities are the largest minority group in the world, representing 16% of the population. In poor communities in Malawi, children with disabilities face huge challenges, including greater vulnerability to malnutrition and barriers to mobility. They have very limited access to education, healthcare and public spaces. Children with disabilities are often discriminated against in their communities. In many cases, fathers leave the family after learning about a child with a disability. Most of the children we work with are raised in single-parent homes by their mothers, which puts a huge economic strain on the family. Alongside our partner in Malawi, Children of Blessing Trust, we bring children with disabilities and their caregivers the support they need to thrive through nutrition, healthcare, social services, assistive equipment and training. 🩵 We want to help children with disabilities engage in their community, access educational opportunities and make decisions about their lives and futures.
