Today marks a big step for US businesses looking to limit the impact of first-party fraud, which costs the industry up to $50 billion a year, as Mastercard’s First-Party Trust program goes into effect. First-party fraud, also known as friendly fraud, occurs when customers claim legitimate transactions as fraud. Mastercard’s First-Party Trust program will enable better data sharing between issuers and merchants making it easier to spot cases of first-party fraud.
