Our team is proud to have published the paper, "Examining Pessary Use and Satisfaction in Managing Pelvic Organ Prolapse: Results from a Cross-Sectional Multicentre Patient Survey" in the BMC Urology Journal. This research provides valuable insights into patient experiences and satisfaction with the current pessaries on the market. These findings are directly shaping our efforts to develop a more comfortable, patient-centered pessary design. A huge thank you to our collaborators, University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Garson Chan, and Minhal Mussawar amongst others, and participants for making this possible. We thrilled to be presenting an e-poster titled "A Computational Framework for POP Assessment and Optimized Pessary Design" at the American Urogynecologic Society's #PFDWeek24. This poster dives into a new method and system for creating a simulation of the vaginal canal using a modified version of the pelvic organ prolapse quantification system (POP-Q) to assess and evaluate pessaries during valsalva maneuvers. Taking a science-first approach ensures that our products are grounded in rigorous research, leading to more effective and reliable solutions for patients and providers. Be sure to catch our Co-Founder & CMO, Mik Gangal, presenting our paper from 1-4pm ET on October 23 through the AUGS platform virtually. https://lnkd.in/gTGifesr

Happy ✨ One to Watch Wednesday ✨ Did you know that your organs can fall out through your #vagina? 😳 😳 😳 Now that the people who are scared by the #female anatomy have stopped reading, we can get down to business. It’s time to talk about #prolapse. The Problem: 🚨 Pelvic organ prolapse, or POP, is a condition in which one or more of the pelvic organs—the #bladder, urethra, #uterus, rectum, or lower intestines—push against the vaginal walls and descend into the canal. 🚨 POP affects an estimated 30-40% of #women worldwide (Hadizadeh-Talasaz, et al., 2024; Wang, et al., 2022). Some people have mild prolapse with few or no symptoms; others have a severe presentation with many symptoms. 🚨 Pessaries are supportive, intravaginal #medicaldevices that support prolapsing organs from inside the vagina. They are a non-surgical option for managing prolapse — but they aren’t successful in all cases. 🚨 Many people—40-47%—who are prescribed a #pessary will discontinue its use. Many report that they stopped because their pessary was uncomfortable or didn’t stay in place (Brandt, et al., 2023; Charoenloet, et al., 2024). 🚨 People who have had a #hysterectomy are particularly likely to discontinue pessary use (Brandt, et al., 2023). The anatomical changes that occur after surgery can make it difficult for these folks to find a pessary that fits. The Solution: 🖨 This week’s #O2WW feature is solving the problem of poorly fitting, uncomfortable pessaries. Canadian company FemTherapeutics Inc. is harnessing #AI and 3D printing to develop customized pessaries that are tailored to each person’s unique anatomy. 🖥 FemTherapeutics Inc. partners with #clinicians who gather clinical data on each patient’s internal anatomy. Their cloud computing program designs a pessary that is unique to each individual. 👩🏾💻 The company is also building a clinician portal to help providers track data across multiple patients. 📱Each patient who receives a custom pessary also gets access to FemTherapeutics Inc.’ mobile #app. The app will help patients track symptom changes, stay on top of pessary cleanings, and receive support from peer community. 🚀 FemTherapeutics Inc. sees opportunities for their personalized approach to #pelvichealth care to help people with a variety of #gynecologic conditions, including stress #incontinence, vaginal shortening after #cancer treatment, and even cervical insufficiency during #pregnancy. I’m looking forward to a day when #surgery isn’t the treatment of choice for everyone with POP. People with vaginas deserve options that work and treatment that is tailored to their unique needs and bodies. 👀 FemTherapeutics Inc. is One to Watch! 👀 https://lnkd.in/gYP5Pj-g #womenshealth #womenshealthmatters #lgbtqhealth #pelvicfloor #pelvichealth #clinicalconsultant #medicalwriter

Welcome to the second video of our series, FemTx Features. This series highlights the stories of our team members, healthcare providers, and patients, showcasing their contributions to advancing women's health. Our second feature is Tannaz Torkaman, our Quality Specialist. With a background in mechanical engineering, Tannaz ensures that our quality and regulatory processes meet the highest standards. She also supports project management and collaborates closely with our technical teams. Tannaz is passionate about working in women's health. During her time in the surgical innovation program at McGill, she noticed a significant knowledge gap between what is known and what is created for women. Often, factors like hormones and women's physical features are excluded when developing health products. Tannaz's bright energy and knack for project management make her a valuable asset to our team. Thank you for all that you do, Tannaz!
