Ending Poverty. One community at a time.
About us
FH Canada, part of the global Food for the Hungry (FH) network, is a registered non-governmental organization dedicated to sustainable development and emergency response among the world's most vulnerable. Often found far outside city limits, FH Canada works where there is little or no current development programming. Their integrated holistic strategy provides attention to education, health, agriculture, leadership development, environmental sustainability and gender equality. FH Canada walks alongside community and family leaders – a significant distinctive in global development. Instead of asking communities what they need, FH Canada asks them what they already have and helps them to develop their own visions of sustainability, providing notable dignity and respect for local leadership.

Globally, one in five girls are married while they are still a child. The numbers are even more alarming in the world’s least developed countries—including six FH partner countries like Bangladesh—where the rate doubles to 40 per cent. This means four in ten girls are married before turning 18, and 12 per cent are forced into marriage before their 15th birthday. Imagine your 15-year-old daughter marrying a man two or even three times her age. By understanding the problem of child marriage, we can help girls and their families say "No!" Here are 10 powerful facts about child marriage and how you can fight it. ⬇️ https://ow.ly/hs7J50Vcb9Y #WomensDay #ENDChildMarriage #WomensRights #GirlsRights #IWD2025 #InternationalWomensDay

With foreign aid retreating, how can the Church step in to fill the gap? Partners in our work may be forced to halt life-changing programs. These huge gaps will undermine the hard-earned gains of thousands of families who will lose the support they need to feed their children, keep healthy, and break the cycle of poverty. With your support we intend to stand in gaps anywhere we can. Let’s not be distracted and forget about these families in need. As caring Canadians, we can rise to the call to help. Take a minute to consider this article by Eric Ha, president and CEO of Medical Teams International. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gWGpyJ5j

What if the opposite of addiction isn’t sobriety, but connection? With the highest level of addiction medicine training in Canada—and a background in theology—Dr. Meera Grover wrestled with the complex ethical questions surrounding substance use, harm reduction, and what it means to offer true hope. Tune into an eye-opening conversation with Dr. Grover as she shares how she’s come to see addiction not as the problem itself, but as a symptom of something deeper: poverty, disconnection, and a longing for belonging. Hear about a transformative trip to partner communities with Food for the Hungry Guatemala from Sandra Gamboias, CFRE, Sr. Director of Philanthropy at FH Canada, below! ⬇️
We travelled to Guatemala last week, and it will take some time to process our experiences in Acul and Santa Avelina in the Ixil region. We witnessed Food for the Hungry Canada's impactful work in these communities. We saw how #women are empowered to meet their families' needs by increasing their income by establishing Savings and Loan Groups. We met #mothers who learned and shared vital health and nutrition practices to ensure their children grow healthy and strong. We interacted with #farmers and observed how #coffee cultivation has improved their lives. We witnessed neighbours opening their homes to those impacted by massive floods. Families welcomed us and generously offered their food without hesitation. Their kindness towards us and one another was truly remarkable. Despite the staggering statistic that 90% of Guatemala’s Indigenous population lives on an income well below the #poverty line, the families we met displayed an inspiring resilience. They shared everything they had, demonstrating a strength that was truly humbling. We were privileged to witness the power of #community coming together to change lives. The unity and solidarity we experienced were a testament to the strength of these communities and left a lasting impression on us. CanadaHelps Giving Report found that Canadians are increasingly disconnected and isolated, making it difficult for individuals to see their role in creating change. In contrast, in Ixil, we saw the opposite happen. Our team is doing incredible work with compassion, kindness, and excellence. A heartfelt thank you to the FH Guatemala team and all the individuals who support our important work! We saw the power of coming together and #endingpovertytogether
