We are delighted to extend our heartfelt congratulations to John Pigott, CEO, Morrison Lamothe Inc. and current Board Chair, FHCP on receiving the 2024 Golden Pencil Award following Canadian Grocer's GroceryConnex conference in Toronto. The award, presented since 1957, honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the Canadian food industry and their communities. John's remarkable career spans nearly three decades, marked by innovation, partnership, and a relentless drive for excellence. Today, Michi Furuya Chang, MHSc, RD, EVP of Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs at FHCP, addressed the Senate on Bill C-252, highlighting the Code for Responsible Advertising to Children as a proven solution to protect kids and promote public health — without requiring additional regulations or bureaucracy. The Code, mandatory for all Canadian food and beverage companies, restricts advertising of high-sodium, sugar, and saturated fat foods to children under 13 across all media and in schools up to Grade 8. Enforced by Ad Standards, it ensures compliance without taxpayer costs and aligns with Health Canada’s guidelines. Michi reinforced how this proven initiative already delivers the outcomes the government seeks to achieve.
