🌟 Extraordinary news to start the year! Nebiyou Timotewos, TELUS student bursary recipient and youth member of our Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area Community Board, was recently awarded the Diana Award - the most prestigious accolade a young person can receive for humanitarian work, established in memory of Princess Diana. After escaping the civil war in Yemen, Nebiyou and his family immigrated to Canada. He realized at a young age that he couldn’t change his past, but he can use his experience and passion for giving back to change the future. From founding impactful initiatives like Brothers4Brothers and Communities Care, Nebiyou embodies the power of change. His journey from war displacement to living in a shelter with his family when they first arrived in Canada to inspiring 10,000+ people through his "Kindness Tour" proves that there truly is power in kindness. We're proud to have such an inspiring global changemaker in the TELUS family. Learn more about Nebiyou's inspiring journey: https://lnkd.in/ghVg7kzn

As we reflect on 2024, our team is incredibly proud to support charities like Sagesse in their crucial work helping survivors of domestic abuse, and their children, find safety, healing and hope. Every story of courage like this one reminds us why this work matters. #FriendlyFuture
When Jane (name changed for anonymity) found out about Sagesse and our Find Our Voices peer support group, she had just made the courageous decision to leave her abusive relationship after eight long years. "It was not an easy decision, but looking back, it was the best thing for my kids and myself,” she says. “I heard about Sagesse through the shelter. At that point, I was determined to do whatever I could to understand what my children had experienced, seek help to heal from abuse, and regain confidence and hope for all of us.”⠀ ⠀ Today, we at Sagesse would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to TELUS and TELUS Friendly Future Foundation and @darrenentwistle for their incredible donation. It’s because of caring community partners like you that we can continue the vital work needed to help end domestic abuse in Alberta. It truly takes a village to support and uplift our community. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to survivors of domestic abuse, and for standing with us on this journey to healing and hope.⠀ ⠀ #FriendlyFuture #GiveWhereWeLive #Philanthropy #SocialWork #PeerSupport #EndAbuse #DomesticAbuse #YYC #YEG #Alberta
