🔬 This week's research spotlight: Design Optimization of Ground-Source Heat Pump Systems Led by FES PI Dr. Seama Koohi, PhD, PEng, this project focuses on optimizing the design of ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems to improve their efficiency and reduce installation costs. While GSHPs offer more energy-efficient heating and cooling for buildings, their adoption is limited by the high costs of installing vertical ground heat exchangers (GHEs). Inaccurate design often leads to oversizing, further driving up costs. Dr. Koohi’s team is developing advanced mathematical models that simulate heat flows around GHEs. These models aim to optimize the size and layout of GHEs within borefields, reducing costs without sacrificing performance. This project has the potential to make GSHP systems more accessible and cost-effective, accelerating their adoption in the building sector. 💡 Key Objectives: ✨ Develop advanced models to simulate heat flow around GHEs ✨ Optimize GHE size and layout to lower system costs ✨ Improve energy efficiency of GSHPs for heating and cooling buildings ✨ Address the barrier of high installation costs through design improvements ✨ Facilitate wider adoption of GSHPs in building applications Learn more about this project here 👉: https://lnkd.in/gsAhXKr9 #EnergyEfficiency #GSHPInnovation #FutureEnergySystems
