Datasets can be like pieces of a puzzle 🧩 They need to fit together to improve our understanding of #genomics and produce research that will benefit human and planetary health. When the pieces are fragmented or don’t work together, it limits our opportunities to see the bigger picture. In genomics, data sharing is crucial for research to happen at a global scale. However, there are still many challenges to doing this effectively. 👀 - How do we do this responsibly and with informed consent? - With a myriad of programmes used to create this data, and multiple data formats, how do we standardise data to make sure it is accessible to researchers worldwide? - How do we ensure that datasets speak the same “language,” and can be compared and analysed as a whole? - How do we incorporate different experiences and values around genomic data sharing? Policy Analyst at the Sanger Institute Gemma Brown, introduces us to the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health, reflects on the challenges posed by data in genomics research, and shines a light on the good practice stemming from our Institute and the Alliance to overcome them. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eWnM-pMb
