Bill C-78 (the "Tax Break for All Canadians Act") received Royal Assent last night. Like you, the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers (CSCB) is anxiously awaiting guidance about how this temporary GST exemption will be applied in the border context. Hopefully news arrives early today to give customs brokers and their importer clients as much time to prepare as possible.

CARM is here.
Tonight, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on International Trade (CIIT) voted against a further delay in CARM implementation. This means the cutover period will begin on October 4, 2024, and CARM will be fully available for use by external stakeholders on October 21, 2024. Thank you to Candace Sider for once again representing the CSCB so professionally. Thanks also to the CSCB Board of Directors, staff, and members, all of whom have contributed so much effort and expertise to ensure our elected officials understand industry concerns about CARM implementation and CBSA engagement with trade.
