Juan Merchán is a researcher who helped carry out the GRC's wide-ranging study of 645 journalists in 87 countries about their experiences with reputational attacks and harassment. He also helped co-author the subsequent report, 'Not Just Words.' Juan recently spoke with Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa - FLIP, a press freedom organization in Colombia, about the report's findings and how they relate to the hostilities that Latin American journalists face. In 2023, the GRC published a wide-ranging survey of 645 journalists based in 87 countries about their experiences with reputational attacks and harassment of journalists. The report is still having wide-ranging ripple effects. For instance, one of the co-authors and researchers, Juan Merchan, recently gave an interview with Fundación para la Libertad de Prensa - FLIP, a press freedom organization in Colombia, about the GRC’s study, especially as it relates to the hostilities Latin American journalists face.
