🌿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 #𝗖𝗚𝗖𝟮𝟰! 🌱 We had the privilege of exhibiting at this year's #CanadianGreenhouseConference with Heliospectra Smart LED Lighting. Thank you to everyone who came to our Welcome Party and stopped by the booth. We look forward to connecting with you again over the coming weeks. Our team was also able to attend some of the sessions over the course of the conference, and the takeaways from many of the presentations given were invaluable. Here are the key highlights of what we learned that can impact our industry: 💡 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 & 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: Long photoperiods with low-intensity lighting are a game-changer for reducing energy costs and improving light use efficiency in greenhouses. 🌶️ 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗘𝗗𝘀: Some peppers and tomatoes exposed to extended photoperiods under LED lights showed anthocyanin development—improving their antioxidant properties, albeit impacting their potential marketability. 🐝 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗘𝗗𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹: Artificial lighting, including LED spectra, can influence not only plant growth but also pest behavior. LED light strategies could improve biological pest control. 🥬 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘀: Using specific light recipes can enhance the nutritional value of leafy greens, herbs, and peppers, increasing antioxidants and extending shelf life. 🌙 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Managing night-time greenhouse light emissions was a major focus—best practices were shared to reduce the environmental footprint - more information can be found through the Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness | Agriculture, Alimentation et Agroentreprise Greenhouse Fruit and Vegetable Publications found here: https://lnkd.in/ekH-69ZD. ✨There’s so much innovation happening in CEA and greenhouse technology.
