Innovation continues to take place at Port Saint John! Our Facility team began the shifting of our automated gangways this week in preparation for a full retrofit. While it may not seem like a big deal, it is. The challenge: Our equipment was originally sourced from Europe. Most of the parts when required today need to be sourced overseas and brought over. This creates a major risk of not being able to properly meet our cruise line expectations in the event of any downtime where parts are not readily available. Beyond this there is the added cost of expediting parts and flying them across the Atlantic. Our solution: Our Facility team brought forward the idea of retrofitting the existing equipment. After consulting with a number of local businesses a plan was put together of how this could take place and critical spares made readily available. Why this is a win: 1. It shrinks the supply chain for the gangways, bringing spare parts closer to our facilities. This reduces risk exposure, potential downtime, and cost. 2. It extends the life of the overall equipment. 3. It increases reliability as both gangways will be brought up to date with the latest plc’s. 4. It ensures guests will be able to enjoy our region for years to come on safe, reliable equipment. It takes a team to be successful - thank you to our Facility team, VINCI Energies, Graybar and many others in Saint John for continuing to bring forward ideas about how to drive innovation on our waterfront!
