🌎CDL-Vancouver Climate Stream Spotlight Week "Participating in the Creative Destruction Lab Climate Stream has been a transformative experience for GreenLIB. Over the past nine months, the structured program has kept us accountable and laser-focused on our goals. Each session provided clear milestones that pushed us to innovate and grow continuously. The strong mentorship and support from the CDL community have been invaluable in driving our startup's progress. The GreenLIB team is grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a dynamic and results-oriented program" - Fred Rostami, Co-founder of GreenLIB. GreenLIB is a Montreal-based venture from CDL-Vancouver’s 2023/24 Climate Stream. Their upcycling solution recovers valuable materials like lithium, graphite, and electrolytes from lithium-ion battery waste to address the scarcity of critical minerals in the battery industry. Their process eliminates fluorine, significantly reduces waste, and achieves a materials turnaround time four times faster, allowing for increased throughput with high recovery levels. Are you a venture working on climate tech that could benefit from objectives-based mentorship? Apply to CDL-Vancouver's Climate Stream today, a no fees, no equity program: https://lnkd.in/ez43f-2 Want to learn what makes a strong application to the program? By 2030, demand for lithium-ion batteries is expected to rise by more than 500% to power widespread electrification—but we simply don’t have enough of the critical minerals needed to meet these needs. GreenLIB is bridging the gap with its approach to battery recycling, which employs water technology and electroextraction to reliably recover critical minerals from end-of-life batteries. The startup’s technology overcomes a number of challenges faced by conventional battery recycling, which is pollutant-heavy, energy-demanding, and typically involves high costs and emissions associated with long-distance transportation to centralized facilities. GreenLIB’s process recovers 95% of essential elements from batteries, sourcing minerals with 82% fewer GHG emissions than traditional mining methods and 57% fewer emissions than standard recycling techniques.
