Evidence-based forest news. ✌️🌲️🌲️🌳️🌳️🌴️
About us
Ground Truth is a publication documenting our journey to make environmental data free and transparent. As former reforestation contractors (and tree planters 🤘🌲) we understood the power of forest data in action. Our mission is to encourage private and government agencies to release this powerful resource, environmental data, to teh public to foster a stronger, more competative, more exciting future of evidence-based climate action. We create videos and articles, ask questions, and talk to experts. We hype the data scientists, authors, innovators, and practitioners who help make environmental data free. 🌳️🌱☀️️

As many of you are aware, President Donald Trump's tariffs officially went into effect yesterday, March 4, foreshadowing significant challenges for our sector. The 25% across-the-board tariff on all Canadian exports, along with a 10% tariff on Canadian energy, adds an extra layer of difficulty to the already complex landscape of our industry. During these difficult times, it becomes ever more important for us to dial in on what we can control as individuals and as a community. We encourage everyone to actively support the Nova Scotia Loyal Program, which is designed to help Nova Scotians identify locally made products. In addition to this, raising awareness of the new NS Guard Program, which is set to provide vital assistance during emergencies and extreme weather events, such as wildfires, floods, blizzards, and hurricanes, will serve as an asset to our sector. Together, we can unite to safeguard our industry and ensure the long-term viability of forestry in Nova Scotia. Let's rally around one another and support our collective efforts. Planting trees can really tire you out. Canadian tree planters often plant 2000-3000 a day, for an annual total of 700 million per year. Here’s our senior content writer, Stewart Mior, after planting less than 1000. (Stew usually plants 3000 per day nowadays, but in this photo he was still learning) (Also I dress way better now)

For all you transparency enthusiasts out there, thank you 🙏🌲️. We got this. Aida Greenbury and this piece on transparency by Ron Volpe put it eloquently: “Everything is traceable, if you want it to be.” Also the main reasons why companies aren't transparent are "cost and risk... risk of revealing what is really going on in their supply chains." That's why transparency is great for business. It's a positive feedback loop that improves trust which increases investment and revenue which raises the bar and so on. I'll add that trees are the easiest supply chain to trace because... trees don't move! 🛞️🌲️ Check out https://lnkd.in/eDVCcqW2 and our transparency publication https://groundtruth.app/
